It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. Their sinuses get infected and it sometimes shows as a swollen head /eyes or even sometimes in the roof of their mouth. I have had very good luck with Tetracycline or Terramycin (same thing). You can get Tetracycline pills online thru a vet...

I have had this happen before. The egg must have been partially incubated when you put it under your broody. If I were you, I would take the chick away and let your broody continue to sit on the other eggs. If you leave the chick in there, it may die because the hen is not showing it how to...

From my experience, once they have decided to be broody, there isn't a lot you can do about it. Even if I took the eggs away from my turkey, she would just sit in the nest on nothing. I even tried letting her roam free outside the pen and as soon as I let her back in (even after several days)...

We are in SW PA (15332). I don't have pics yet. We just bought a new digital camera last week and hubby hasn't loaded the software onto the computer. I'll work on it.
