That is very true that the foxes feel comfortable enough to just trot across my yard.
I think i'll start making noise and yelling at them when I see them.
We have neighbor dogs that come visit us that are sweet and gentle and my chickens probably
let their guard down.
Now, they sound off the...

I'm sorry you lost most of your chickens.
It's thrilling to see wildlife up close but no one wants their chickens to see these same animals up close.
With all the woods around me I never know if she's just watching from the trees.
So, i'll be the responsible "mama" and do what's best...

I can't take the chance of scaring the mother off and the young ones getting separated from her.
That would break my heart. Poor little ones.
And my girls come when I call them especially if I have a treat.
Henny Penny will just stand there if she's scared though so I know when...
Wow-Thanks for all the advice and info.
I really appreciate it.
They have an 8x32 ft. pen so for the 2 of them, that's plenty of room.
They are just spoiled being allowed to roam.
Now that the fox call the edge of our place home, I will have to keep
the girls confined.
I'm sure they'll be...

Yes, come fall/winter they will definitely be in lockdown.
Last winter a red fox ran along their pen first thing in the
morning for a few days. Then we never saw it again.
It was truly beautiful but the girls didn't think so.
Where do you live that there are no grey fox if you don't...
Hi,
I don't post often but have a question.
In the past few weeks I have seen grey fox in my yard as though it's a path of theirs.
I think i've seen 1 or 2 adults and 2 younger ones. I don't know if the male and female
stay together or i'm just seeing mom with some older kits.
I lost all but 2...
The Verm-X sounds really good.
According to the directions it says to add "x" amt. per bird.
How do you know how much each chicken eats and do you only put that much out each day?
Or, if they don't finish what you put out do you take it away after the 3 day period or what?
I guess what i'm...
Thank-You for posting all of these threads.
Very informative.
My chickens have had sneezing, a snick or hack occasionally and 2 or 3 have had a clear sinus drainage at times.
No eye symptoms at all. No swelling anywhere.
I have not given antibiotics. I have given them grated garlic mixed in...
I think you have to give them small amounts a few times a day.
Break it up. No free choice.
After a few days I think they're good to go.
I like your avatar. It looks like an album cover or something. Neat.
Do they still say "neat" these days?
I love the tall pallet fence. Paint it up and it would look great!
I also wanted to say that some preachers are so used to having people obey them that they can let it go to their head in all areas of their life.
Even though he is a "man of God" he's clearly not behaving as one.
Good Luck

You've been dealing with this for 6 months?!! (hurricane Ike was early Sept.)
What symptoms did you have or do you have a thread dealing with it you could direct me to?
Since you now know they are both roosters are you going to keep them?
Were you hoping for eggs or just doing a good deed?
Either way they are very pretty.
How nice that you have someone that will take such good care of them.
She sounds like she is in very good hands and I hope she makes a full recovery.
Please keep us posted on her progress okay?
Wow that is a lot of blood!
There was no blood on the back of any of their legs or rump?
Like someone else already said, I would keep a close eye on them.
I would think that hen would appear run down or weaker in the next day or 2.
I did notice one thing we both have in common.
We both introduced a rooster that wasn't originally part of the group.
My hens were older and hated him. I think it really stressed them out.
They were 3 days old when I got them so I don't think they were carriers.
They DID stop laying eggs for a...
