I noticed 3 of my quail had broken or "limp" legs. They couldn't get around to eat or drink very well. so I decided we needed to cull them. They were about 9/10 weeks old, all female. We cleaned them up, as we were going to eat them because we don't believe in wasting, and saw that all 3 had...

I do it...
A, to leach blood from the bird.
B, to brine the bird abit.
If you have never brined a bird you should try it. It adds moisture, and flavor if you add spices, to a bird that will have a tendency to dry out when cooked. I skin my quail as it speeds up the processing...
Lol. I've never had Bobwhites, but my Coturnix started out frightened by me. After about 3 months, they love it when I come outside to pet them and take them out of their cage. The babies (just hatched 1 week ago) aren't as jumpy as we expected. They're a lot calmer than our first batch. I guess...
I had 39 Coturnix eggs in my incubator. They usually hatch at 17-18 days. This time mine hatched at day 23, even with perfect temperature/humidity the entire time. It's crazy, but I'm glad I waited before I did my "eggtopsies", lol.
Howdy! I've got 17 adult jumbo brown Coturnix. The last 2 batches of eggs that we put in our incubator, both hatched 1 yellow chick that "turned" white once it got bigger.
What are these called, and how do we sex them?
Thanks.
Just watch the temperature for the next couple of weeks. Candle them in 5 days or so and see what you have. They should be fine. A couple of hours really doesn't make a difference. It takes a while for the center of the egg to heat or cool.
Good luck!
Oh, I know! It was my first hatch and I was so nervous waiting. It was day 17 and I told my boyfriend that I wasn't going to even look at it because I was obsessing over it. On day 20, I wasn't even worried about it, I was just ready to get rid of the eggs and put some fresh ones in it. My...
My boyfriend and I were talking about trying to find some bands to put around their feet to identify between the different ages.
Let us know how it works out?
Give them a couple more days. My temperature was pretty steady on my first hatch except for a drop to 74 for a couple of hours, and I still got 60% hatch rate, but they hatched at day 20.
Good luck!
BTW, I also had a temperature spike up to 111 for 8 hours. As long as it's not over 24 hours, I...
Temperature drops or spikes in the first couple of days aren't too bad. I had a drop down to 74 on day 2 then a spike up to 111 on day 4..and I still had 90% hatch rate.
Don't lose hope!
