Hi,
I use an aquarium air pump. It works to about 20 degrees and then I switch to a bird bath heater...I have not had any problems and it got to around 10 degrees so far this year.

Hi everyone hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Since we are still under about a foot of snow my chicks/ducks are really wanting greens (we give them lettuce). We were wondering if feeding them alfafa cubes for horses would be ok and had anyone done that here.
BTW the chicks/ducks loved the...
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to find out if we can feed our chickens some fish food.
Ok here is the background...we ran out of fish food(pond) and we bought
a different brand since the brand we usually buy was out of stock. The
fish HATED the new food and we now have 50lbs of fish food. We wanted
to...

So would that go the same for the chickens since you would not want the roosters to get too much calicium?
My ducks/chickens are going to be fenced in the same area (seperate coops). The chickens are already in the area since they are almost 8 weeks old.

Hi everyone,
I have a question about when to change ducklings feed rations. Ok, I
have read Storey's Guide from cover to cover and it says that you
should change ducklings over to a lower protein feed at 3 weeks of
age.
The ducklings have been on 20% protein chick starter since we got
them. I...

BTW here is a picture of them at 4 1/2 weeks.
Hi everyone,
I have a question I have noticed a few chickens sneezing they are 5
weeks old today. I looked at each chick and I do not see any discharge
from their nostrils or their eyes. Everyone is eating and foraging
fine. They are almost completely feathered. Any ideas?

Hi all
Cetawin: I knew about the 95 degrees and the 5 degree drop per week but these ladies liked it cooler from the get go. We started at 88-90 degrees and they seemed pretty good last night when the temp in the coop dropped to 62, but they are happiest in the upper 60's to around 70...
Hi all
We have almost fully feathered 4 week old chicks. We had to start putting them out in the coop because of space. They are already down to the 70 degree mark.
My question is, what low temp can they stand (with heat lamps). In other words what is the lowest temps they can handle...
Hey everyone,
Sorry to be asking "newbie" questions, but it goes with the territory
since I am a "newbie" to chickens.
Ok question one
When can I feed the chicks some veggies? We grow lentil sprouts for
us and I thought these would be good for them (in small amounts).
Question two
When can...
