I did not see any parasites upon inspecting her, but now that I know what to look for ("lice eggs") in the Google search, and that is indeed what she had. I dusted her earlier today with DE, and she had been bathed earlier this month after another bird has pooped on her, so that may have gotten...
I have a year old Buff Orpington hen who has been "off her feed" both literally and figuratively the past few days. I've come to suspect that she may have worms, even though my 5 other hens and two roos are showing none of the same signs.
Primary problems:
Worms?
Very Little Appetite...
I think I found the problem. I had spilled some water when removing the tray of water, and it was in the corners at the bottom of the bator. I left it running overnight without eggs, and it is now currently at 35% humidity and has stayed at that level since this morning. I think the spilled...
That's really helpful! I've been looking through a lot of threads on humidity, but everybody is concerned with low humidity, instead of too high. I'll make sure to keep all the vents open.
I may just decide to hatch fewer eggs. I was trying for a dozen, but that made the humidity spike too...
I've just finished a DIY incubator from instructions I got here: http://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-styrofoam-quotstill-airquot-egg-/.
My problem is, while the temperature is remaining stable at 99-100 degrees, with occasional jumps up to 101, the humidity is ranging from 55% to...
I have a 3.5 month white Americana pullet. She weighs about 2.5 lbs. The problem I am having, and I am not sure if it is really a serious problem, is that she seems to breathing irregularly. Her breaths are raspy, and when she exhales it sounds like a "coo".
It only developed yesterday (July...
I'm not sure if this is the right area to pose this question, but here it goes:
I am thinking about getting two button quail from a friend of mine who is trying to find them a better home. I have four 3 1/2 month old chicken pullets, all over which are well over two pounds, and an adult...
I think the reason why she offered is because he didn't get along with one of her other roosters. I am going to ask her today whether he is good with chicks. Thank you for the advice.
I've been offering my month old chicks grit (sand and a bit of dirt)and they love the stuff. But how much is enough, and how much is too much? I don't know if they could get problems from eating too much, but I don't want to find out the hard way.
I am a new chicken daddy, and as such I will probably have lots of questions! But for now, my only question is: Would a rooster make a good babysitter for my month old girls? My neighbor (who I caught the chicken bug from) has offered me one of her roosters, as she has too many for her flock of...
