OK, I went down last night, washed her off and saw no new blood. Her vent didnt look bloody, not too sure what it should look like normally but it was pinkish white color. Not protruding. She looks good. Heres hoping it was a freak thing. Thanks everyone for the help! I appreciate it!
Just went to collect eggs and I have a Golden Commet that has bloody vent feathers and I have a bloody egg. What is it? What should I do? She is active and comb is a good color.
The egg wasn't broken till my kids "helped" me. LOL Thank you so much for any help!
The run is double wrapped with chicken wire and there is a barrier off the 3/8" plywood we just set into the ground. Hardware cloth is coming soon as is a solid roof before next winter. Its a work in progress. :) Thanks everyone.
This is either claw marks or teeth marks, I dont know. There was a pretty good sized hole under the door as well. Thankfully, the girls were put away for the night. Otherwise this may have been a different post.
We added 3/8" plywood 18" down into the ground today. I hope this helps...
My girls will be a year next month. Today, while cleaning the coop, there was quite a racket! I finally have a RIR that was actually bok bok bogok! Yay! All the rest still honk like a goose but this one was bok-ing away! LOL Yay!
I have a 5 gallon metal one that freezes everyday and a small plastic chick waterer inside the coop the usually freezes as well. I lug the small plastic one back up to the house and put it inside the tub. I run hot water on it for a few minutes till it thaws then open it and get all the ice...
I keep food and water in the coop and water outside in the run as well. I keep the food inside just to lessen the chances of other critters getting into it as I dont want to move it at the end of each day. :)
DH ended up hollowing out the center with a knife and we used a huge zip tie and some rope to hang it. Worked great! They were scared of it at first but thats ok with me, the more scared they were of it, the less pecking they gave to each other!
I know that they can eat pumpkins and such but can they eat this type of squash? I bought a huge one at the store the other day and was hoping they could. I am also hoping it distracts them enough to stop pecking each other! LOL Thank you!
I have 3 nesting boxes. 1 has a plastic golf ball in it and the other 2 have ceramic eggs in them. Everyday they lay an egg where the golf ball is. Have yet to see an egg in the other nest boxes. Crazy chickens!
