I'm culling a mean rooster next week and need to know how much stress this will put on my hens. I will have to take him of the roost because he cannot be touched without a fight, besides my hens need a break from this monster.
I will be culling a real mean rooster next week. How much stress will this cause my hens? I will have to take him of the roost as I thought that would keep the stress down. Will they continue to lay as normal? I know that I only need him to fertilize eggs, but will his disappearance shock them?

I'm glad you asked these questions because I kinda thought my birds where a little slow. I too would give them fresh water and they would fight to be the one to drink out of the new puddles or want to eat the food that had been rolled in the dirt a few times. They will stand in the rain, but...
I have watched when my hens would fight one another my rooster would jump into the middle and break them up. He is truly a referee. He is mean but he treats the hens good.
After reading all the post there appears to be a group of people this has worked for. There is also some it didn't work for, and then there are those who know everything about anything who have never actually tried it (kind of like our government ) I say try it and see if it works! What could...
My first group of chickens I had 1 rooster and 2 hens. On many days I would always count on 2 eggs without fail, but on several days I would find 3 normal eggs in the box. And yes he is a rooster.
