Two of mine got into it with each other, and I have the "loser" in an emergency coop. He is pretty bad off, I fear he might not make it. I have given him Rooster Booster (vitamins-liquid form) by mouth, anything else I should be doing?
Nope. I think she is too old for any rehab. What makes it worse, she is talking to me now. She coos at me when I come into the kitchen. Still eating like a horse, and does not seem to be in discomfort. I am working every day til next friday, so I won't have time to play around with her.
Well, it has been several months since I first posted about my chicken/neighbor problem. In that time, one of the hens was lost to a fox, my husband shot the rooster, the flock was taken over by the Roos son, and they don't go across the street anymore.
And, my husband passed away.
I haven't had...
Well, after a couple of days of good chow and uber vitamins, she is getting stronger. I had a makeshift cast on her leg, it is gone now. I had her in a sling, and she doesn't need support anymore either.
She is definitely not wild. I think she is a Royal Palm.
She might be too old for this to work, but I am going to try putting a web shoe on her curled foot, with a hobble, and she is she improves any over the next few days.
I came home from work last night and found a turkey hen sitting in the grass in front of my door. Now, it has been a few years since I raised turkeys.
This is what she looks like. She is about the size of an adult rooster. She cannot stand. She has one leg that has a curled claw. I have...
I got a fishnet this AM from Walmart, will wait til I throw out feed tomorrow to try to catch em. I'll wing clip all that I catch and throw them in the (fenced in) backyard. If I get the five hens, the Roo won't be wandering off on his own.
Good suggestions folks. I spoke with neighbor on the phone this AM, she was really nice about it. She wants to see if a humane trap will work too. I think I will try that, and a little wing clipping, as well as a covered pen.
I only have a half dozen or so birds.
If I could catch them, yeah, problem is that ever since they flew out, they have been hobos. My buffs don't misbehave like that.
I can't see climbing 20 feet up a tree at night to catch them. Wondering if a humane trap would work?
My gamebirds were given to me by another neighbor. Having never had any, I put them in my pen, and they promptly flew out. They have been roosting high up in the trees at night, and wandering around by day. They like to "visit" a neighbor across the street. My neighbor is "not amused". She left...
State Ag depts are cracking down big time on anyone selling raw milk, it could come from that. In fact, I believe that there are *new* laws on the books, recently passed, that would allow anyone to be arrested for darn near anything.
I give away eggs too, and use some for barter. If I were to...
Yeah, we are thinkin near a den site. I will let DH know about the predator calls, he is the mossberg operator. Thanks for all the advice y'all. Much appreciated.
Nope, In GA. However, there is a neighbor two houses down with chickens that I heard kickin up warning squawk a couple nights ago. Also one across the dingle from us who gave us some gamebirds, and he still has a good size flock. The foxes seem to be makin the rounds. DH took one of the huskies...
I am looking for a Border Collie as a means of solving predation problems. I can't keep mine penned, I need them to free range or I will have to cull the flock myself. And so I need to get a guard dog or get rid of the foxes. I also fear for my cats. They will kill cats, not to eat like a Coyote...
Well, saw another fox today, this was not the same one, different coloring. My guess is I have met Mr. and Mrs Fox. Last night I heard a ruckus over by my neighbors -their birds were all upset about something, and I can bet I know what.
DH took one of our huskies(trained to track) and followed...
Watched a fox run off with one of my adult Buff Orpington layers this AM. There were two field fences between me and the fox, and the gun was in the house. By the time I got through both gates, the fox was down the gully back of our house. Looks like the hen was dead by then, I think it broke...
She hatched in late November. At first we thought she had gotten a leg caught in the egg turner and was injured. One leg was OK. I have been keeping her in an aquarium with deep litter. At this time, she cannot walk at all.
My question is, if I make a sling and put her legs in splints to...
