Hi - my name is Phyllis and I've lived in NC for about 30 years. I've always loved animals and have been environmentally conscientious for as long as I can remember. I've also been involved in animal rights, but am not a radical about it.
I don't remember exactly how I became involved with...
Thank you both for responding to me.
I'm feeding him scrambled eggs, rice krispies, laying pellets, berries and anything else I can think of. He's now in the house with me so I can feed him frequently and keep an eye on him. His comb feels pretty normal to me. I'll give him vitamins and...
Something is wrong with my rooster and I'm not sure what's going on. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that he was sitting on the perch a lot. I saw him get down and eat and drink some and didn't think too much about it. Long story short...he got quite lethargic and I assumed he would die in 24...
I just want to provide them with a little bit of light. They seem to weather the winters just fine w/o extra heat.
That's a good idea about securing the lamp to the beam. I'm terrified of having a fire and will be very careful.
Thanks for the feedback, btw!
Hey Ladysonja,
I'm beginning to think Hansel is just accident prone! The other evening I was getting everybody in the barn and Hansel got his foot stuck in a small rope latch and tripped! He didn't get hurt though and I just laughed at him.
He also has sprained his ankle a couple of times so...
I've always loved pigeons and this is such a pretty bird. I'm glad you were able to help it and so sorry that there are others unaccounted for. Poor things.

Yep - clean it out really well and get rid of the algae with diluted bleach water; rinse well and then add ACV to the drinking water to prevent algae. I believe it's 1 tsp per gallon of water.
Ya know what would be really cute - make one of those old fashioned chicken feather christmas trees! I'm sure you can find directions on the web. In fact, I might just make one myself since I've been saving feathers for years.
I have a question about this to. I've got a 12 x 16 barn, earth floor, not insulated, tin roof. I've had had chickens for eight years and they do just fine in there during the winters. I've actually run a drop cord down there and hung a box fan this summer, which has helped them with the...
These pictures are too cute. I wish I could keep a couple of mine in the house but my dogs would kill them in a heartbeat.
I'm going to make saddles for a couple of the girls tonight though and am very excited about that!

OMG - I LOVE this!!!
My poor Tinkerbell is really in rough shape right now and this would be so much easier than finding yet another space for Woodstock.
So - how long is the elastic piece on this for the wings? I'm going to make some for my girls tonight.

This makes me so sick. I deal with stories like this every day and have personally fostered over 40 dogs in the past 7 years. So many are left to suffer a long death in silence. Any animal that is found and saved is so fortunate. Some people make me so sick; I wish the same thing...
It's wonderful that you saved this little life! I'm sure she was terrified and that's why she acted like a ferocious killer before you persuaded her with food.
Good for you...and lucky little Prissy!!

You're not kidding! Everything is up and will get higher. I just bought a bag of my regular dog food and not only is it up a few bucks, it's 5 lbs less in the bag!
NO medicated chick feed for the geese. They eat so much that it will harm them.
Also, once she is about 8-9 weeks old, she'll need to be changed to crumbles (with a lower protein content) or she'll develop Angel Wing.
They are intelligent, so talk to her and handle her as much as you can...
