    Spangled LF Cornish.

One of my future projects I am working on, I have 5 of them so I will be breeding them out to see what color chicks they throw. They are the black ones with brown and white, the others are WLR crosses that will most likely be used in another project The mahogany chicks are Buckeyes.

Same old question, boy or girl Pekin?

I believe it was early May and they would have been a week or so old, the Khaki Campbells never shut up so they are fairly easy to voice sex but these guys dont say much. I pick each of them up and they will make clucking type noises but never quack or make deep throaty sounds like the male...

Same old question, boy or girl Pekin?

    Sexing jumbo browns early

If you have your birds together in a cage and you sexed one and got a little foam it could have been that it was a hen that was just bred. If they are normal jumbos or brown wildtype then the breast of the male is gold and the hen has spots. I have about 15 baby jumbos and 10 adult breeder...

    Winter laying ???????

I asked a similar question before and people replied that they light 14-16 hours a day, in the winter if you want to give your quail a break that is ok too, you just need to expect them to let off of laying some or completely. It allows the birds to take a break and lets their bodies focus on...

    Sexing jumbo browns early

Its still young but guessing by the spots on the chest I am voting hen as well, the males I have pretty much have little or no spots on their chest from 2 weeks or as soon as the "fuzz" is all clear on their chests. Keep us updated

    quail and chickens

It would take a lot of work to clean it up from having chickens in it, you would be better off to build a rabbit hutch style enclosure out away from the shed, that way you start new and do not have to worry about bio-security issues. JMHO

    GQF Thermostat install questions

Yeah I looked at the instructions again, on this thermostat the green is constant hot, the black is power supply when the thermostat is on, and the white is ground, you would think they would make it universal wiring colors so people do not hook them up backwards :( I hope it didnt hurt it...

    GQF Thermostat install questions

I installed my GQF 3255 Thermostat yesterday and I had troubles with the wiring because my hatcher was homemade ( not by me ) and the wires were not color coded. My old primary thermostat was a water heater thermostat and was crap for keeping temps, there were 5 to 8 degree swings so I ended...

    Should I assist or no?

I agree man, I have several chicks right now that are proof rescuing works, if you saw them you would never know that they could have been thrown out with the bad eggs, they are happy and healthy little chicks

Quail babies with a serama chicken mother?

PLEASE DONT, Coturnix Quail can get some nasty illnesses from chickens and should be kept totally separate from chickens. You dont need a chicken to brood coturnix, you just need a tote, bedding, feed, water, and a heat light, its that easy and they will be feathered out and laying eggs...

    Should I assist or no?

I am a bad one to give advice because I help chicks all the time, quail and chicken but if you do assist you have to be prepared to accept the fact that you may kill the chick trying. With quail I give them about 19 days, most of mine hatch on day 17, on the 19th day alot of the time I will...

    Incubator Recommendations

I am sorry I didnt update, I have ended up buying a 1202 ( I think ) GQF, it has the 3 turner trays and an electronic thermostat with a wafer backup. I actually bought a hatcher from the same guy with 5 trays and room for 2 more, its the same specs as the GQF hatcher so it is almost identical...
