Neighbor's Rottweiler Killed my Chickens and a Duck

You are all more patient than I. Around my neighborhood, you get 1 free chance. After that, the dog(s) will never be seen again. I have many animals that we as a family raise and care for as well as care about. I also have 2 children. You mess with my animals, you get 1 free warning. You mess...

    bees and bee spray.

My husband was in the pest control business for 10 years and the absolute best thing to kill any wasps, hornets, bees, etc. is water and dawn dish soap. It "grounds" them instantly then kills them and it is non-toxic to all the animals and people.

    Attention Boston Terrier Owners!!

I have 2 Boston "Terrorists" and 1 is completely fine around all other animals, including all my poultry, while the other one is not. My younger one has actually killed a couple of my chickens that have gotten into the backyard with her. She is a hunter though and kills birds and any gophers...

How can I change my User Name?

I would like to change my user name, but can't figure out how. Also I've been a member since 2008, but it shows I've only had 4 posts, instead of over a thousand. Was I 'quiet' for too long? Thanks for any help!

    disease or coincidence?

I definately think this is NOT coincidence. They only advice I can give is to search the symptoms. I have recently read a lot about coccidois (sp?) causing these symptoms. Your birds will need to be treated right away if you feel this could be what is going on. Good luck.

HELP!! 12 week old chick attacked by dogs

So sorry. She sounds like she is in shock. A quiet dark place will help. Don't worry about making her eat right now. The main thing is to get her better from being "shocky". They electrolyte water was good too, I don't know if it makes a difference or not, but I also add a little sugar to mine...

HELP! My chicken was attacked by my dog!

Unfortunatley I have had injured chickens due to dog attacks. It's fine that she wants to stay in the nesting box. Usually they like a darker safe place after an injury. Keep the food and water available and check all wounds daily. Make sure no other chicken is pecking at the wounds, they will...

2 week old chick with very bloated abdomen, acting lethargic

I hatched three eggs in the incubator from my hen and rooster. Chicks were born Aug 30th. Brooder is inside, chick has two siblings. Last night I noticed that all of a sudden one chick was very lethargic, laying on belly, and "gasping" air. The chick's crop was pretty empty. Stomach area was...

    Lost pig to Black widow.

I have read that spiders hate eucalyptus and peppermint oil. With the eucalyptus you can hang in bushels around areas and with the peppermint oil, you mix with some water and spray with a spray bottle. I never saw how often to spray. I've heard good reviews with the oil, but have not tried it...

I'm new here, know nothing about chickens, need advice

As long as everyone seems healthy they can go together. I have my chickens in with my 2 nygerion dwarf goats and they do great. The chickens actually love scratching around the hay that is left when the goats are done eating. Growing up, we've always had are chickens and goats together.

I'm new here, know nothing about chickens, need advice

Be careful because some things are not good for chickens to eat, like raw potatoes or any type of raw bean or rice. If they are going to free range on that much land, I would image you could keep them healthy through the winter. You would be surprised at what they can "dig up". You may just need...

I would like your opinion - it's an ethical question

I also worked as a vet tech for 9 years and have seen this situation of having to make the toughest decision ever! I agree with you taking a look at her quality of life. That has to be your number one question. If she is confused, or in pain the quality can not be that good. It sounds like you...

    Help! 1 dead, 1 sick

I went out this morning, and put my little hen in a crate with some bedding. She is eating and drinking. One eye is crusted shut. Kind of green looking. The other eye had crusties on the bottom eye lid. Her eyes do not look swollen. I didn't observe her sneezing and she doesn't have any mucus or...

Question about a Nanny goat...advice please!!!

Also If you are going to try to bottle feed don't spend a lot of money on milk replacement. Go to the refrigerated section of your grocery store and buy cold goat's milk (NOT the canned kind). This stuff workes great and doesn't need to be diluted or anything. It also doesn't expire for a long...

Question about a Nanny goat...advice please!!!

I've raised goats all my life. She should be interrested in food. Open her mouth and see if she had small teeth in the front. She should have about 4 showing on top and 4 on the bottom. Go to the feed store and get the Purina goat pellets. They look like rabbit food. They should be medicated...

Help! Goats are eating chicken feed!

I had the same problem. Like noted before, the scratch is not that bad but the other is. I also used stock panels and closed off the front of one of my smaller loafing sheds for the horses. I have my nesting boxes in there with a feeder and water for the chickens. I also attached wire to the...

    Help! 1 dead, 1 sick

Thank you very much for your help. I will go to the feed store this morning and call the local vet. Although I'm not sure how much the vet will know because they don't handle chickens. Again thanks for the info!
