    Leg Weakness and Trouble Walking

Not sure about age, under a year so probably close to 6 months or so. She hasn’t laid an egg yet. The breeder we got her from didn’t inform of any vaccinations so not sure about that. Her droppings appear very normal.

    Leg Weakness and Trouble Walking

Hello, My poor little bantam Cochin who I love dearly has been having difficulties walking for the past 2-3 weeks. We originally thought it was due to the grass growing and her foot feathers being long and dragging. Put the past week she has been almost unable to walk and has extreme...

    Silkie With Bumblefoot?

Hello everyone, Let me preface this by saying that I am a grad student that lives at my parents house. If I seem uninvolved in this situation, that's why. My mom does most of the chicken work! Recently, one of our silkies has developed swollen toes and feet. I noticed it about a week ago. Her...

    Looking For Parakeets

Hello, I am a long-time chicken owner and recently I've been looking to get a parakeet or two. I don't want to get them from the pet store so I've been looking for breeders. Unfortunately, finding parakeet breeders is much more difficult than chicken breeders! I don't know if anyone would be...

Balance Issues in Otherwise Healthy (?) Hen

Well it's been about 3 weeks since we first noticed her balance issues, and they persisted for a while but have slowly gotten better. Now I barely even notice her having balance problems at all. She seems to have overcome it completely. I'm not sure what the issue has been... Could she have had...

Balance Issues in Otherwise Healthy (?) Hen

My mom says she seems a little better today and is still lively and exploring the yard. All of our other chickens are perfectly healthy. How quickly does Marek’s spread? I’ll be going home this weekend and I’ll feel around on her leg when I do. Thank you so much for the advice! Edited to say...

Balance Issues in Otherwise Healthy (?) Hen

Yikes, I was really hoping it wouldn’t be Marek’s. I just got word from my mom that she is indeed unvaccinated. I’ll see if she can take her in somewhere, the vet we’ve gone to in the past hasn’t been much help. Is there anything I could do at this point to protect the others or would it be too...

Balance Issues in Otherwise Healthy (?) Hen

Hello everyone, I have recently been alerted that one of my favorite hens is struggling with balance issues. She was completely fine yesterday, but today can barely walk without flapping and falling. She seems okay otherwise and is still lively and excited to eat. She's about a year old and...

I've lost three birds in one day....

I just wanted to say that I am so terribly sorry for your loss. Unfortunately I am not much help but I know there are plenty of knowledgeable people around here who can help you. Have you thought about Marek's? I'm not sure if it would take its course that quickly, but it's a possibility. Best...

    Looking for Silkies in KS

Hello all, I am located in the Kansas City area and am looking for some silkie pullets. I absolutely cannot have a rooster since I live in the city so I need to be sure they are female. If you breed silkies and have any available now or in the spring please contact me. Thank you!

    Consolidated Kansas

Hello everyone! I haven’t been here in a while, many of you probably don’t even remember me. I’m looking to get some Silkie pullets in the spring. I’m in the KCK area, Olathe specifically, and willing drive up to 2 hours. Does anyone know of anyone that breeds silkies that might have some...

    Infected Comb?

I know it's been about a week since this thread has been active but I just wanted to post a follow-up. My girl got a little better and perkier once I started giving her vitamins and electrolytes. She even showed more interest in food. But just a day or so after that she declined again and...

    Infected Comb?

I got some poultry cell last night and have been giving her some in addition to the probiotic/vitamin blend in her water. Her comb actually looks relatively normal now but she’s still lethargic and hardly wants to eat or drink anything. I will keep updating on how she’s doing!

    Infected Comb?

That is very good to know, thank you! I will try buying that and see how it goes with her. What is the best way to give it to her?

    Infected Comb?

Yes, she is vaccinated against mareks. I can’t rule out a head injury, but I’ve never seen anything to confirm it. I think vitamin E is definitely likely. I’ve also heard of people using poly-vi-sol, would that work as well?

    Infected Comb?

I will check her crop in the morning but I’m not sure that that’s the problem. Definitely a possibility though. I really appreciate all of your responses! From what I’ve been observing I’m actually not sure that the comb is the problem anymore. It still looks odd but her symptoms are more than...

    Infected Comb?

Her breast is rather prominent and the is fairly thin. No swollen abdomen, vent looks fine. Except she has had problems with runny droppings that get stuck to her rear fluff (sorry, kinda gross). Recently her droppings have been very watery since she hasn't been eating much. My sister recently...

    Infected Comb?

Thank you @Eggcessive and @Chickassan for your responses. I would like to reintroduce her to the flock but all she wants to do is sit around and sleep. She has not laid in a while but she’s always been very inconsistent. I haven’t checked for parasites. What would be a good way to do this other...
