Good things to think about... I actually hadn't thought about processing at my property or theirs. I had only thought about setting up a area away from my chickens.
I guess I could do mine first and try to work out how it would actually go down, and final costs.
Thank you for your input as...
There is a real need for surplus rooster butchering in my area. The city limits allow hens and I was thinking about offering to butcher unwanted roosters for those who ended up with roosters from their spring chicks. I'm in the county and breed my own so I also have some extras so I'd be doing...
Both chicks do have pea combs. Whatever this hen is she does lay a very nice blue egg. I know her father was a Ameraucana and was pretty sure he's Blue. I may have to test hatch a few more eggs and make sure they are hers by separating her for a few days.
Hello 👋
I'm hoping someone can help me determine what I have as far as colors on my hen and her chicks.
To start off I've had Blue and Splash Ameraucanas for a while but I recently acquired another hen and wanted to pair her with my Splash Ameraucana rooster. She, to me, looks like a Splash...
I used to only candle on day 7 and 18 in my old Styrofoam incubator because it wasn't easy for it to recover heat and humidity.
Now in my Brinsea I can candle as many times as I want because it regains so much better. Typically 7,14 & 18.
🥚THIS IS THE YEAR!🥚
I'm going to build a self serve egg stand at the end of my driveway. I'm pretty sure I know what I want but would love to see pictures of other stands! Show me what you have! ❤️👍
It's just so weird! I kinda love it! ❤️
I have two Polish hens but I have never hatched their eggs... I tried to last spring but they weren't fertilized so I did bother trying this spring.
The only thing is, is I produced this chick. His mother and father were bred and raised here and so were the grandparents. I've never owned a Sicilian Buttercup. 🤷🏼♀️
I hatched this chick last month he is from a Olive Egger mother (Ameraucana X BCM) and a Welsummer father.
His mother has the modified pea comb and he had what looked like a straight comb until about a week or two old it started developing this circle at the back of his comb.
I'm so...
Thank you so much @NatJ that is exactly what I needed!
Honestly it was my fault they are all mixed up, as I was expecting them to be easier to tell apart. Turns out... not so much! I guess that's why I typically use the Ameraucana with a pea comb. 😄
I've been crossing BCM hens to a Blue Ameraucana rooster, and have loved my results. The hens are black or blue sometimes with a beard and some without.
Then I started crossing those back to a AM for minty green and then a Welsummer to get speckles on the olive.
This year I have blue egg...
