Congrats to the winners! This has been such a great experience!
My kids and I are ready to try a second hatch...bator is sanitized and ready to go!! Just waiting on some eggs. :)
These are just a few of of your fans JIM and Co.!
You did an amazing, tremendous, fantastic, wonderful, incredible, chick a holic, fun, silly, informative, educational, entertaining, and rewarding job!!!!!
Yes, my kids had a thesaurus lesson this week, LOL!
We, the participants, could not...
These are the pictures of the chick that was prematurely ripped from its egg. The other chicks jumped on the zipping egg.
The skin was papery, the liquid moved freely under the skin. I think the shell literally pulled the skin off the body, and it could not reattach. It was very...
I want to update, this chick lingered most of the day, moved a bit but mostly struggled. This afternoon it died. The watery sac was awful looking. Tomorrow I will post a couple pics.
Also, our other "sticky chick" we bathed also died tonight. Lots of sadness with the kids. It is hard to...
I have read every post, through the hatch, I think I've read most of the literature, and yet I have had the most bizarre thing happen today!
We had an egg partially zipped, it had been several hours, and all the mayhem around it, it was still peeping and moving inside the shell.
A couple of...
You are not a failure! Sometimes things go wrong, and no one thinks poorly of you for it!
We set 37 eggs, as of today we have tossed 11, 13 hatched, one chick is laying in the bator struggling because the rest of its cell mates ran over its egg (that was partly zipped) and cracked it in...
I have to agree! This has been a great experience. Even though my hatch rate stands at less than 50%, we did better than some.
Wow! Great job~
Have you tried a chiropractor? My old Greyhound, no gone over the rainbow bridge, had so much relief in his last year from some adjustments!
You...
We have 13 hatched now, out of 37...mayhem in the bator!
Made a make shift brooder box...took the first six wild ones out of the bator to give those drying a chance to rest!
This little one was all sticky, and not drying...so it got a warm bath! It is doing great now!
This one is still...
I would open long enough to get a bit more water in there.
Remember, in the most controlled environment, the organism does what it darn well wants too.
And the Hen does not lay on the egg constantly, so temperature and humidity are varied.
Is it a homemade unit? Maybe the fan moves too much...
We are up to 11!
5 Barn yard mix, 1 Amer/BCM, 2 Black/Blue Ameraucanas, 1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 Welsummer (finally 1!),
1 Buff/Lemon Cuckoo Orpington.. It's been more than 24 hours and still have 23 to go...
We have 8 chicks!
We set 37, 3 never made it to lock down, but we were pretty sure that 8 or 9 others didn't have a chance.
Since this was our first hatch, we put in anything that wasn't cracked. Nothing smelled, so even the ones that looked empty, we decided not to toss.
So sad not one...
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
This has been so much fun!
Even as I lay in the hospital last week, I kept thinking, what am I missing? Wish I had my computer!
Tonight was really exciting. The chicks are so cute! It was so neat that our first three chicks were all from our farm.
I hope the...
Just as I looked away, BAM! they started pipping and when I got back to the bator, I lost the contest!
It was 12:01 and that little bugger had broken out! By the time I got the camera and the phone on, it was 12:02!
Oh well, there is always next year. That's what I get for being social!
I...
