    Roo but what kind?

Thanks! I was hoping someone would use the word Marans in their description. So far I am very pleased with his demeanor with the ladies. Although I don't 'breed' to hatch out babies I like having a Rooster around the barnyard.

Curious as to why my new hen holds herself like this.....

Thank you! I was wondering if it might be because she was kept in a small cage. I plan to take her to the vet on Saturday for a better evaluation. I will mention what you said. Her beak is too long and her toes look 'weird' (for lack of a better term). She will not be used for breeding...

Curious as to why my new hen holds herself like this.....

She is a rescue and I have her isolated... but I just couldn't leave her there! She holds her tail to the left constantly and maybe you can see how her toes are soooo long. She is... hesitant... in the pen, moving around very cautiously. She appears to ok, but that tail worries me. Her...

    Roo but what kind?

He has feathered feet. And he was a freebie from a friend who needed to get rid of one of her boys. Thanks!

How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

3 out of 7. But I don't count the little bantam Cochin who hasn't laid an egg since she went broody last fall. So 3 out of 6?

    First GREEN egg.....

Quote: The color is not quite right in the picture. The egg from Sophia is really darker than what it appears to be (I'm assuming you mean that one) and the egg from Nickle, in the front, that looks like a duck egg is really a lovely light blue. I was just too excited to run out to the car and...

    First GREEN egg.....

So funny you should ask Artsy.... I have a VERY broody Cochin right now that is proving to be difficult to break.... but I am really happy with the size of my flock and don't intend to grow it at least until next spring. Yeah right!

    First GREEN egg.....

Not sure how to reply to that. Pearl who just laid the Olive egg is pure white. My other two easter eggers, Penny and Nickle, are wheaten and gray/blue color. I'm so new all this color combination thing has me sOOOO confuzzled.

Bumblefoot - Treat one foot at the time or both?

Thank you. I guess I'll doctoring them both tomorrow then. She'll be in a large dog kennel in the chicken pen with separate food and water.

Bumblefoot - Treat one foot at the time or both?

My SLW hen has it. I noticed what I thought was her limping a few days ago. I've had her since April. She is not an easy bird to catch but catch her I did. It seems that she has maybe a 3 classification on one foot and maybe a 4 on the other. Obviously she's had it more than a few days but did...

    Pictures of my run

It's beautiful! I'm certainly no expert, but I'm concerned that the rain run off from your roof is going to flood the run. And I noticed the slope of your property runs downhill. Perhaps a rain gutter on that side to deflect the water would be a good idea. Love the color and decorations. You...

Throw a puppy into the mix

Just curious.... what breed is he? The JRT that I had was the biggest snuggle bug you could ever ask for... but the was also a fericerious chewer (destroyed many, many pair of shoes) and could play ball for hours.

Throw a puppy into the mix

Quote: Pretend he's one of your chickens and you are 'penning' him up for his own safety. Really crate training is the BEST thing you can do for him right now.
