He does look an awefull lot like a Jack Russel. Cute Puppy, Chooks, and I fly helo's as well. He's a Decker Rat Terrier, and to get his ears to stand up requires cotton balls and rubber bands. I like them floppy. There aren't fire ants at this altitude, just big black ones. I'm letting the pullets out of the brooder today and they will have a field day in the laundry room. P.S. Ceyene works in the garden to keep the squirrels away, too

I must agree RHRanch and Dainerra, we have fostered many puppies and they all hate the crate to start out but it is a good thing to do. It also makes house training 10 times easier! We have a bichon that we watch and his owners could not house train him because they didn't crate train him. We where going to have him for two weeks and that was the first thing we did

By the end of the week he was fine in his crate. We also tether the puppies to use during house training. That way they can't go potty in a corner

It is hard but well worth it. It might also help with the chewing

You could try a Kong toy, stuff it with some peanut butter and than put it in the freezer. Best treat ever!

He has a kong. He has 12 other chew toys. He has a harness. He has his own room (the huge laundry room with the brooder in it). But it breaks my heart to stuff him in the cage and hear him cry. I suppose I'm afraid he's going to hate me for it someday. We'll try the crate again tonight, but I'm a sucker for a cute face.

I know it's hard

If you can ware him out, maybe take him for a walk, play fetch? Just get him nice and tired

If you can put the crate in his room and put him in there for bed time. That way you can close the door, it may sound harsh but if he can hear and see you he will cry more and the more he cry's that harder it will be for you. During the day you can move the crate out of his room, so that way he can see and be around you. Don't worry he is not going to hate you one bit

If you can try putting some peanut butter in his kong and giving him that it will keep him busy.

We had a beagle puppy we fostered and she didn't just whine she yelped, howled, honestly she sounded like she was being killed. It was the hardest thing to listen to. After a few days tho she got the point and would only whine a little.

Pretend he's one of your chickens and you are 'penning' him up for his own safety. Really crate training is the BEST thing you can do for him right now.

my sisters jrt mix is the absolute worst she can squeeze out the door and between your legs and be in the next town before you catch up with her she sure is fast.

Thanks again, but he still isn't a Jack Russel. This guy has an off switch, which is good because he'll get much bigger. He likes sitting on the couch as much as tearing around the yard. We should walk the fence, but it's probably ME who wouldn't make it back awake. I'll stick him in his cage tonight, and if worse gets worser, sleep next door.

Just curious.... what breed is he? The JRT that I had was the biggest snuggle bug you could ever ask for... but the was also a fericerious chewer (destroyed many, many pair of shoes) and could play ball for hours.
