How old are your BO's? Mine are now 11 weeks and look very much like yours but I'm sure they still have a way to go before being actually full grown. I need to figure out how to post pictures!! Great looking birds:))

    Well….We got er done!!

Everyone that comes into our place wants a coop like it, LOL! I don't think D/H would do another for any amount of money:) I'm proud to say the "girls" have learned where they should roost at night after a day of free ranging the area. Every night at dusk they are all in their coop waiting for...

    Well….We got er done!!

"I would highly suggest one change though. I would add a layer of preasure treated 2"x6" around the base. Run them flat side down with 45 degree mitered corners and centered under the 2'x4" 's that you have for the base. This will keep the wood from rotting much better than the way you have it...

    Well….We got er done!!

Thanks for all the compliments on our coop! I'll try to answer some of the questions asked:) All of the materials, including the roofing, came from Lowes. The roof is not metal but some sort of poly-type material. You can find it in the roofing department in Lowes easily enough. The design was...

    Feeding new chicks??

My babies arrived Tuesday and so far so good:) I only have 10, but that's enough for starting out. I do have them on medicated chick starter food and they all have great appetites and drink their water great too. But I have noticed that if a fly gets down in the brooder container with them they...

PICS!!!New coop done!!!!! chicks coming from ideal tomorrow!!

Quote: Do not use cedar shavings. Pine only. I love this setup for a brooder, I would be concerned with preditors like snakes and rats though. I also agree that a smaller more confined area at first might work better. Perhaps build a solid box with lid where the heat lamp is over the top...

PICS!!!New coop done!!!!! chicks coming from ideal tomorrow!!

Great set up for the new arrivals! I am wondering what type of bedding you are using? As we have horses, it looks like the cedar bedding we sometimes get for our stalls. Now if this is cedar you are using, is it safe for baby chicks? I ask, as we will be getting our babies soon and was thinking...

Building tractor with raised coop on one end. Should floor be wire?

I like the fact you have used such heavy duty wire but think the holes are awfully big...seems that predators could get through the wire?

    My Pet Chicken?? ordering chicks?

I ordered from MPC on April 21st. Just a small order: 3 Australorpes, 3 Barred PR, and 4 Boff O. Now I also saw on the web site where my order should be ready May 12th? I have gone back to MPC and see that they have no avaliablity on some breeds, some of mine included, until much later? I hope...
