I have GQF Hovabators, which didn't come with any hygrometer, just a little thermometer. I'll see where I can find one locally or online. Are they available in pet stores? Our feed stores don't seem to carry much beyond heat lamps.
Hi all,
I've just wrapped a batch of hatching and had some disappointing results. Out of 2 dozen Red Bourbon turkey eggs, I have only 6 live poults (Plus 1 who pipped but died before hatching). I cleared out in the incubator today and opened up the remaining eggs to find that they all...
I think it was indeed. I went through each egg and tried to figure out by the size of the air cell if they had developed, and most seemed to have not. So all the ones I thought had died I opened up since I was removing them from the incubator anyways, and you are correct, the ones that developed...
Well, convinced that they were all dead, I opened one up today to find it did in fact have a chicken in it. AT day 15, it seems only to be at a day 9-10 development. It seems that, if the rest are indeed alive, they might hatch. Has any one else had chicks that hatch so far behind? is 5 days...
Thanks. I got a higher-powered flashlight and it works better on those dark eggs, most of which seem to have a dark spot, some of them it seems to jiggle a little with the egg.
Hi all,
On Sunday morning I noticed that suddenly my incubator temps had soared to 110F! The incubators and turner are plugged into a power bar that by accident was momentarily flicked off and back on again, and this is the only thing I can think off that could have caused the sudden burst in...
Recently acquired Mr. Glen Coco and Jelelle. The sale said they were Ameraucana, but they don't seem to quite match up. He doesn't have any fuzz/feather on his cheeks. Mostly bought them as some pretty lawn ornaments.
Hi all. My dear old dad went out and bought 2 pair of Hungarian Partridge Friday without a decent place to put them. They are currently living in yellow shipping crates.
Does anyone have a design I can slap together quickly so the poor birds can spread their wings a bit? He plans on reno-ing an...
About a week or two back our black hen went missing, and we thought a coyote had nabbed her, as it took one of our toms earlier in the year. Walking around yesterday, I discovered her nesting under a raised shed foundation in the shadows, in plain sight no less! Now our blue slate hen has gone...

The first melt-puddle of the year, and the flock was fighting over it. My usually dominant Africans get a little beat up .
I usually like live, because we usually purchase from our local auction. We bought some goose eggs once that were advertised to be fertile Embden eggs. When hatched and eventually grew up, we had some Africans.
Even with young ones it can be hard. Haven't had much bad luck with chickens, but we...
Just wondering if any of the Canadians go to the Hagersville Livestock Auction. I'll be going this Friday with some rabbits and looking for some birds.
Whatever the source is, the black eyes make him absolutely adorable. He was one of the first rabbits I bought to start my herd, and he's super friendly.
Well, the litter they came from ended up being bottle fed, mum died mysteriously after 2 weeks. Lost a few once they switched over to formula, and ended up with 2 looking like white NZs, and 2 looking like Chinchillas. I had no clue there was Chinchilla in either parents, as they were both...
Just bred 3 more does tonight. NZ whites, NZ-Chinchilla mix, and NZ-Fleming mix. The NZ-Chinchillas grew up really quickly, so I wanted to try them again.
I have depression, anxiety, and migraines, and I don't have any chickens right now, but I find the rabbits, horses, ducks, geese, and turkeys to be calming. The turkeys play by following me around until I turn back and look at them. If I wake up with a migraine, my mom let's them out in the...
