    A wonderful woman just gave me a mother bantam hen with 6 baby chicks. I have never had an adult chicken yet, so, does she still lay eggs while raising baby chicks? I not, when does she, because I will have to make some place for her to lay them.. Any advice???

    I live in New Kent County, about 15 minutes from the outlets in Williamsburg. Anybody know much about how to care for the chickens in the winter? Do I need to do much or is there rabbit hutch type coop ok?

    Digging in the ground

    I just put my nine babies in their coop outside for the first time last night. Today was their first day out in the yard, and they are digging around one of the legs of one of he hutches. Then they just flap around. I didn't know if they are sick or hunting up bugs... Should I worry?

    Dbounds...I love your fenceing and coop idea!!!! Really looks expensive though... You look like u did it the right way the first go round.. My thing.. Is after these nine.. Hubby is NOT letting me put a brooder and chicks in his garage again.. I am so jealous!

    There is a tree so they can hide and eat bugs. I also have two goats and they have been pretty safe so far.. I know I have fox somewhere.

    I have 9 chicks and my husband has decided to fence in like a 1/4 acre. Then, he has explained to me that there doesn't need to be a roof. Really??? Aren't they going to fly away? I got my chicks for free when I bought a bag of feed from some place... I think they are a mix of rhode island...
