It doesn't matter anymore =/
The last one passed away. It was vomiting some eggwhite consistency liquid.
I just hosed the broody and hopefully that fixed her.
It might have not been the broody's fault.
The last chick remaining is vomiting a sort of egg white stuff.
If this last one passes away within the hour, I'll bury it and try to break my broody again.
If not, I'll try to introduce chicks next week again.
She's chattering at them, like opening her beak and clapping them, and then she nips at the down and that's it.
She's been broody for about 2.5 weeks now.
Hopefully this barred rock chick is a fighter... I just buried the Buff Oprington chick =(
The chick is about 3 days old today and I...
Wow,
One of them died =(
I think it got squashed by the broody. The one I found outside is not doing so well either. I gave it some water through a small dropper and tried to mix some starter into it.
I'm going to be checking on the remainder chick every half-hour.
Well,
I put them under last night. In the morning it seemed all right. The other chickens found a spot to lay their eggs.
However, I just got back from shopping and I found one of the chicks outside of the nest just with closed eyes and barely moving. I don't know how long it was out...
Just put the chicks under her and took out the eggs.
Hopefully everything goes well.
I have one concern though... The coop is above ground and has a ramp leading up to it. Do you think this would be a problem?
Hey All,
I'm in Hayward!!
I was just wondering if anyone has any fertile eggs (maybe like 2~3) that I can have/buy so I can satisfy my broody hen?
Please forward the message, I'm willing to drive, but not too far and I'm available on the weekends. Preferably eggs that are 1week fertile...
Ok, it turns out it's only been a week. My brother doesn't really have a good sense of time.
I'll try and find some fertile eggs on the forum.
If not, I'll try the bucket thing tomorrow, but that makes me kind of sad since she's pretty determined :(
EDIT: I will be doing the bucket thing...
So it's been almost a full year since I've gotten my chicks and now they are all grown up.
Now I got one of my hens being broody for about 2.5~3 weeks. My family have tried breaking her by taking eggs, locking her out of the nest box, and that sort of stuff.
I'm only home for weekends at a...

I didn't want to hear that
I've clipped their wings... But the RIRs can still get to the top of their run which is about 4ft high We'll try a sort of fence, hopefully I can try and keep the costs down.
Hey All,
So I was wondering if anyone has found or made some type of temporary/removable fencing that they used to keep their chickens out of a certain area?
I was thinking of using netting and a bunch of wooden stakes, but I'm also looking at prices.
I also thought of buying stakes, and just...
Okay, I interrogated a couple of the family members.... It turns out my younger brother decided to chase one of the hens and stepped on one! At least I know it's not a disease or anything of the like.
Hopefully, she'll heal with time
So one of my RIR's is limping. I have no clue why. There doesn't seem to be an attack. Although I heard a scream earlier today, i don't know why she's limping. What would be the course of treatment? My father says that'll she'll heal on her own.
Any ideas?
Just been poking around, what...
I'll keep it short and simple.
"Help" them in by shooing them or something of the like into the coop or physically putting them in there at first. After a week or so of doing this, come sundown they should be inside by themselves.
This just keeps getting better and better!!
Thank you Tim for the valuable information.
Just realized, is it only the cocks (is that the correct term, even for gamefowl?) that have the vibrant colors or can the females (I'll just use female instead of hens since I'm not sure) also?
I'm so happy that y'all have more breed knowledge than I do. I'll be sure to show her these!!!
Thank you soo much
But where to get these types of birds? Chickens are relatively easy to find...
