You said it is a small coop is it too small? I have 20 hens and it can be right with all of them on the roosts I had 6 from a younger flock that roosted outside. All but 2 have figured out their supposed to be in side I still need to put them away its been low teens to single digits here.
Here is a few pics of what I did for my little ones.....They came home on Febuary 23 and I live in UTAH still cold very cold at night 20-30 degrees. first 3 week i left them enclosed no window trap door closed. with one heat lamp during the day and on the colder nights Two. they did fantastic...
They have had face to face access through the chicken wire run on the brooder since week 4 and the big girls hang out with them quite a bit. But what about feeding them when can they be switched to the layer pellets?
Might hens all have access to food 24/7 plus scratch and they free range most of them feel the same way skinny. They are egg layers that where most of the nutrients go is into egg production. I'm sure their fine. If you want big breasted birds maybe some of the larger breeds will be better for...
I have 15 9 week old mixed pullets I built a outside brooder to cut back onto the mess in the garage. But at 9 weeks it is pretty crowded when they are inside.
My question is when can they be moved into the coop with my 12 hens which is plenty big for all of them? I need to make the move soon or...
Well I'm glad it worked out for you....I've. Tried for 3 day to intergrate 3 3 week old chicks with my other 9 week holds and they are ruthless......I've put the little ones in a dog carrier in the brooder but Evey time I let them out it gets ugly fast.
I put a double layer of roofing tar paper in mine ..... I just pulled it out today to see how it did its been in there 9 weeks. Not even a water mark any where. Worked great. I really like the above mentioned linoleum and I just may update mine to that next year. And putting water up on blocked...
I have 15 8 week old pullets and 12 1year old hens. Pullets are outside in a brooder coop. Free ranging hens have access to outside of brooder run and hang out there alot with the pullets. When can i put the pullets in with the hens in the main coop?
Mine are 7 weeks old mixed breeds at 4 weeks one of my brown Leghorn started growing a comb none of the others really have so he definitely a little roo. Good luck
If they will have the coop for them selves go for it. Put the lamp in there so its there if the need it. Mine have been out in my brooder coop since the were 1 week old. With heat lamps and the have done exceptionally well. Did the inside garage last year till the were 10 weeks old...never...
Mine have been outside since the were 1 week old. I had 2 heat lamps and the did fine. In an uninsulated coop they will be fine. And I live in utah night temps were in the high 20 when I put them out.
We had 2 that pasted really bad every day after about the 3 day of dipping twice a day I took some scissors to them and trimmed the fuzz way back as short as I could aroundbthe vents.....problem solved.
