So this is more of a general comment, I'm not really asking a question or anything like that. I have been replacing my flock over the past couple of months, we had a horrible winter, we lost nearly 30 hens do to a raccoon, and my coop became dilapidated. So, long story short, we're rebuilding...
So I got this bcm that has taken to and decided she wants to be a broody. She's about 6 months old and just flat out refuses to come off the nest. First we tried just going in and pulling her off the nest...that didn't work..lol! Then we tried turning the nesting boxes around over night so she...
I'm not sure if she's done it all day or if it's an isolated incident...I work...so I don't see them all day...she seems fine though other than water for poop!
One of my bcm's was standing near me today and decided to relieve herself and basically it was just water that came out...should I be concerned? My girls have plenty of water and they get plenty of laying pellets so, I don't think she'll get dehydrated or starve but...I was wondering if this is...

That's awesome for the double yolkers...I got two of them the other day myself...1 from one of my bcm's and 1 from one of my rsl's...it wasn't expected either as all my chickens are still pullets...
Yeah kinda...it is tougher than the rest of the white...but also much thicker and takes longer to cook...it's kinda strange but tastes the same as the others...
Hmmmm....no one else noticing the same thing? The link I posted is to a picture of an egg that breaks down all the parts of an egg...so everyone could see what I was referring to.

My Marans eggs seem to have a thicker Albumin than my other hens eggs...has anyone noticed the same with their marans?
Wow...that's about what mine was like...a little bigger in diameter and a little shorter length wise but basically the same thing...funny things...chickens...huh?
So I'm sitting there just watching my chickens this morning and one of my red sex links is walking over toward the coop when she starts squatting down while she's walking and then "poof" out plops an egg on the ground! She then proceeds to the nesting box and acts as though she's going to lay...
So one of my bcm's layed her first egg yesterday ( i was very excited) late in the afternoon somewhere around 2 to 2:30 roughly. She began to brood I think as soon as she layed the egg. I noticed this and so I promptly went in to collect the egg so hopefully she doesn't get broody. She got...
Thanks to all of you...one of my rir's just layed her first egg this morning too...it was speckled and quite tiny...we couldn't eat the Maran egg though because upon further inspection it was cracked on one end...she must have been pushing hard to get it out and it cracked when it hit the...
3 days shy of 5 months old...I didn't think she was ever going to lay...lol!! She was sitting on it too...so be careful unless you want chicks cause Marans are or can be very broody!!!
