Is there a "failed hatch troubleshooting" pictorial?

Malpositions are caused by too high of humidity during incubation right? Turning is automatic at 6x a day. I can set my humidity super easy. So if it is humidity, I'm baffled. I wouldn't think 43% is too high. Even at that my air cells were huge. Is it possible for air cells to be too big for a...

Is there a "failed hatch troubleshooting" pictorial?

I'm getting kinda stumped. Some egg's hatch in a textbook manner. Others in the same hatch die after lockdown. Upon opening them I find malpositions of various degrees. Also a couple had a gel like layer around them. It comes off easily, but it seems potentially suffocating? I'm getting about...

Alright, locals! Soon I will need to get rid of some cockerels. I'll give you guy's first dibs. I have 2 created cream legbars ( so friendly you can pet them like a cat.) Then I have a black copper Marans and what is a Marans legbar cross that might have something else in him. He is big, blue...

Alright Fellow Oregonian's. I'm here to vent. Bear with me. Today I had 6 more super rare Belgian Malines egg show up today. I was already nervous because of the heat wave. But they got here in good shape. I was at work so my son (13 yr old) offered to unpack the egg's and set them to rest...

Need help please! Malpositioned chick pipped side of shell, not in air sac, what should I do? It’s still trying to zip but not making much progress.

Chick looks good 👌. Wouldn't worry about it. I just had 3 pip the wrong end and a Friend said it's about 50/50 when they do that. My 3 did hatch. Just took a bit longer.

I've been trying to. For some reason it won't let me post pics in the fashion that I did last. I'll try again later. On another note, one of the Malines is colored in a unique way. Can't wait to see what comes of it.

Well. I did end up with 5 Malines. Pretty excited about that.

Well. It has not gone as good as I had hoped. Just before I got home from work yesterday, several chicks hatches simultaneously and the humidity pinned the gauge at 99% at that point. I'm not sure if it was too much hatching at the exact moment or what..? But the inside of the incubator was...

I've now got 16 pipped and 1 hatched. I've come to the realization that I had humidity to high during incubation. I have 3 backwards Pip's.. I hope they make it.

I have tendency to let them sit a few day's if I think they have gone bad. One of my hatches I left 3 that I thought were dead and one hatched....

Yes. The barred genetic is probably one of the easiest ways to a sex link from what I understand.

I've read about that a little bit. But I was always under the impression it was a color pattern thing. Didn't realize it could be done buy rate of feathering, but it does kinda make sense.

    My New Babies

Best results are done on day old chick's. On my last hatch of 8 chick's I believe I feather sexed them 100% accurate. I'm not going to claim that for a while. I have approximately 27 to try it on this Friday. We'll see.

    My New Babies

With Wyandottes, I have been told by several local breeder's that feather sexing is to unreliable to consider it a definite option. Though I do it with mine and it's been pretty good. I have some Silver laced and Lavender split in my brooder now. They are almost 3 weeks old. The roosters combs...

Free ranging chickens with a bird dog

I know this will be sound kinda lame, but if your dog is fully "leave it" trained, you will likely never have to command a leave it on the same item again. We have Chickens, duck's, cows and goat's. I've only told him once on each species. He will occasionally "drive by" my ducks, but I thinks...
