    Uh oh, Low internal temp.

I installed a fan to help prevent cold corners. I don't know if this project is salvageable, but I'm building "Darth Bater" now. It an improved design, larger and has much thicker walls.

    Uh oh, Low internal temp.

Maybe it's not as bad as I thought. My wiggler and rolled and dropped down in the bater to the far corner from the light. I moved it to the middle of the bater and closer to egg level and it's up to 96.7 (and climbing). Maybe (Fingers crossed) my eggs will be OK...... I really need to get...

    Uh oh, Low internal temp.

Thanks!!! As you can see, this is my first bater attempt. I'm not impressed with my first model. I have a larger and thicker Cooler now and I rounded up a fan from an old Mac. I was going to work on building it for my next batch, but seeing how this one seems to have been lost, I reckon I...

    Uh oh, Low internal temp.

I've had 14 RIR and SLW eggs in my bater for 4 days now. I had the air temp hovering between 103 and about 98. My internal temp on my wiggler was steady at 94.8 or so. I came home today and the air temp was the same but the wiggler was saying 90.5. I have no idea how long it was like that but...

    anyone due on feb. 8th-13th??

I'm bringing 6 Silver laced Wyandotte & 6 RIR both bred with my (Buff Cochin) eggs to room temp tonight and will put them in my Bater tomorrow. I guess that puts me on schedule for a 2/13 hatch date I'm curious what a RIR with feathered feet is going to look like . I have a golden laced that...

    One of my hens died.

Yesterday AM, I gathered eggs and one had just a tad of blood on it. I thought that was strange. I've never seen one like that before. But I could not find which hen seemed injured. They all checked out fine and was normal. Then today I saw my most beautiful Silver laced Wyanotte acting kind of...

    When'd yours start laying?

I have 4 barred rocks and 2 RIRs that I got as chicks on March 17th. They still haven't laid yet. 4 of them have very bright red combs and they seem to take interest in the laying boxes I supplied. But I check theentire runa nd coop 2X per day and I STILL have no eggs

    CAPSONIZING ROOSTERS

I did a search on the internet a few weeks ago about this. I heard/read it would make my broilers larger. There's a pdf out there with instructions from an old mail order Sears catalog Capon Kit. I downloaded it, read and promptly decided that's WAY more than I'm qualified to do. Good luck.

    Tennessee?

Thanks We love it here. Actually moved here from Lebanon 3 years ago. It's a much simpler, slower pace of life.

    plucking

I just did 4 today. I have a few more that I'm waiting to put on another pound or two. Plucking ain't' too bad if you do what pumpkin suggested. I let one soak a little too long today. The skin was starting to tear. about 30 seconds should to the trick.

HELP! HOW DO I GET THE GIRLS IN AT NIGHT?

I keep a red light on in their coop all night. Is that bad for them? I turn it off when I go feed in the morning and turn it back on before dark. It used to be for heat when they were March Chicks. But if it's not good for them to have the light at night I'll start keeping it off.

HELP! HOW DO I GET THE GIRLS IN AT NIGHT?

If I don't have the light on in the coop, mine won't come in and I have to pick them up and carry them to the coop. But if the light is on they are there by dark and all I have to do is lock 'em down

    Skiddish hens

I've been talking to them since they were chicks. They perk up when they hear me. They also object when I come in the hen house or bring scratch. The last few days I've been going and just sitting in their pen with them. They come around close but if I move they bolt. I reckon it'll be easy...

    Skiddish hens

My laying hens are spooked when I come around. They've always been well tended to and taken care of. I probably messed up by not handeling them much as small chicks. Now they are going on 8 weeks and run away when I'm around. As soon as I'm out of sigh they come running back to see if I brought...
