This recipe was meant for Chukars, but is just as good with quail.
Ginger Grilled Quail
2 to 4 Jumbo Quail
1/4 cup of dry wine (such as a Cabernet Sauvignon or Bordeaux blend)
1/4 cup feshly squeezed lemon juice
2 tablespoons of grated fresh ginger root
3 cloves of garlic, freshly minced...
Just hatched 97 out of 120 Jumbo Coturnix Quail eggs, that will go in the freezer in about 8 weeks. I should say half of them will. I will keep the other half for laying eggs. I love quail on the dinner plate. Me and my family would drive from Tallahassee, FL to Thomasville, Ga just to eat at...
So, it sounds like there is no real benefit to put them in the pasture pens, if they don't eat the grass like a Cornish Cross Broiler chicken would. And I guess it would be a waste of time to have to move the pen everyday if the grass is not the main dish for the quail. My wire floor grow out...
Let's assume that the pen is build well "predator proof" if you will, like it would be for the chickens. Is there any other reasons it might not be a good idea to raise quail in the pasture pens and to get the same benefits as you would from the grass feed, bug eating pastured chickens? Other...
Is there any reason that you couldn't/shouldn't raise quail in a move-able open ground type pasture pen like you would raise broiler chickens? Fresh grass, bugs, clean poop free ground every day. Predators would be the biggest concern I guess? And the birds flying out when you open the top to...
When I look on line to order the Cornish Cross meat birds, I see that most hatcheries offer the choice of all males, all females or "straight run". Is male or female better? What are the benefits of each? What should I order?
Thanks,
Ryan
I have a Hova Bator model 1602N with a auto turner and a forced air fan. I can not decrease the temp. It has climbed to 103.2 and will not go any lower. I have turned the thermostat in 1/4 increments over the last two day to decrease the temp but it will not adjust. I have 120 quail eggs...
I bought a 50 lb bag of "Super Biddy Starter" medicated feed 28% protein not realizing that it was medicated. I have read many places to feed quail non-medicated feed. Why? What problems will the medicated feed cause? I know not to feed it to quail but do not know why. Anyone?
Thanks,
Ryan
I was given about 12 Ring-neck Pheasants eggs from a buddy. I hatched 8 of them and they are about 5 days old now. I just ordered 120 Jumbo Quail eggs and will need to get rid or sell my baby Pheasant chicks. Are you required to have a game bird license in Florida to only sell only 8 chicks...
Thanks! Had to add two "HOT" wires around the legs of cage because I had some dogs pull some legs off the birds under the pen. No problems after the "HOT" wire was installed.
They are a lot like having quail. 23 Days in the incubator, under heat for 3 weeks, feed them high protein feed, mature in 16 weeks. They taste a lot like quail but more meat. Hope this helps.
