A crow has befriended my chickens

Thats weird harveyhorses. I used to hate crows until we got chickens and then they finally became of use lol.

Twenty chicks dead, six still missing, older chicks missing too but...

Sorry to say but it is very unlikely you will find the missing ones alive . Did you have them in a pen or coop that was shut up? Are there any places that something like a coon or fox could have gotten into the chicks? My first guess, if they were just killed and the majority left laying there...

    conflict w/hubby about donkey

The donkey would definitely keep the coyote away. We had a donkey that didnt mind the dogs but if something like a fox or coyote got in the pen it went crazy. But as said before the easiest thing to do would be to bait it in or use a predator call and just shoot it when it comes. Good luck.

Can you ID what animal may have done this?

Well if it is a fox it will come out in the day or at night. And there really is no way to hunt them that is fool proof. I have killed several by just being in the right place at the right time with the right gun. You can try to catch it in a live trap like a box trap or foot trap but if you...

A crow has befriended my chickens

Hey keep him around, as said above they are great for running off any unwanted predators like hawks and such.

Can you ID what animal may have done this?

There are several animals that could have done that. Just a few are foxes, coyotes, hawks, racoons. What types of predatory animals have you seen around your house?(that may help narrow it down)

    Fox Attack!

Yes the fox will return for sure. If you can cover the "chicken yard" with a net or mesh or something to keep the chickens from flying out and patch any holes in the fence. Then run some electric fence around the bottom, middle, and top of the pen and turn on the power. That should deter the fox...

half grown coyote stalking my chickens

Go with the kill him option. Any live coyote is a bad thing to have around, if you dont kill him now and he gets bigger that electric fence might not discourage him enough. And then your only option would be to eliminate him.

Raising Chickens in Grizzly Country - Need a better Mouse Trap!

Just put you up several strands of electric fence like Achickenwrangler#1 said. Get a good fence charger and some metal t-posts and insulators to keep the fence from grounding out on the post and you shouldnt have any problems while the fence is on.

Hot wire on run - grounding question

Yes if the coon is touching anything he will be shocked. And if you have a metal roof it will deffinitely work since he will be touching metal when he touches the electric fence.

    Electric Fence question (s) - Foxes/Coons/Skunks

That should do the trick. There are plenty of ways to make electric fence work.

    Electric Fence question (s) - Foxes/Coons/Skunks

Even if the animal isn't on the ground as long as the fence is working it should get shocked (especially if it is touching something metal like your welded wire fence). You might want to run one more around the middle just for the fun of it and for extra protection, that way you will deffinitely...

    groundhog

The coon will be hard to get rid of. If you have a trap I suggest trying it with some cat food in it for bait.

    Help!!!!!

It is probably a racoon or fox that is your culprit. Live traps are an option but it will have to be a larger one if it is a fox. A game cam would also be useful if you have one or can get one. Good luck.

    Crow attacking my chickens!

No idea on what to do for your chicken. Sorry. If you have a gun like a .410 or 20 ga shotgun though you could fix the problem very quickly and cheaply. Or a .22 or .22mag would work fine if you have any of them.

    Dumb fox!

If you shut the coop or run up at night to where the chickens can not get out or the fox can not get in then you won't loose any more chickens at night. But the fox may still come during the day so you will have to figure out a way to deal with that until you get them all trapped.

    posume or snake

He would go there because he had a food source there from the trash and because he will eat the eggs, feed, and the chickens inside the coop if he gets a chance.

    stray dogs

Yes a 17HMR is more efective than a 22 but a 410 or other shotgun is just as good at close range, especially if you arent a good shot. And if you have to worry about other peoples property the 17HMR will go much farther than a shotgun or 22magnum will. Therefore it is more dangerous to other...

    stray dogs

If you get a gun get something bigger than a 22 even if it is a 22magnum it will be better for everything that you might have to deal with, or if you aren't that good a shot get a shotgun. If you get the gun and the dogs come back just shoot one of them and then the dogs probably wont come back...

    posume or snake

Well if your weather has been anything like ours, snakes should already be holed up somewhere for the winter. And as for the possum there is usually more than one, and if it has found any easy food source with the chickens then it will come back for the food, not just because you caught the...
