another one hatched right b4 dinner time. roo showed them to eat, but the chicks would rather hide underneath him. Hopefully tomorrow will have better luck getting pics. Total of 4 hatched so far out of about a clutch of 12~14.
omg omg omg... 3 baby button quail chicks hatched today.... naturally incubated by the roo!!!! trying to take some pictures but roo is very protective. had to remove the hen (Augie) cuz she was picking on the chicks.

we went out of town for a long weekend so we didn't pick up the eggs (the buttons have plenty of food and water b4 we left of course) and when we returned the roo has been sitting on the eggs!!! It has been about a week and he's dutifully sitting on them. only gets up every once a while to eat...

Augie's been sitting like this most of the time (day and night) for more than 2 weeks now. She's all puffed up. We went to youtube last night and watched some button quail hatching videos, really wish I can see the hatching with my own eyes!
