Yesterday my 4 little bantam hens gave us our first 4-egg day ever! Plus we got 2 on Friday. I guess the heat isn't a problem for them...although I wouldn't be surprised if they start laying hard-boiled eggs soon. The heat and humidity is definitely high enough for that to happen!
I'm hoping "Don" brings in relief from the drought without doing significant damage wherever he makes landfall. My pasture could sure use a good drink!
Hi all! We got so much rain yesterday that it left a puddle in my driveway...an actual puddle! Since my chickens were hatched after the drought began, they were completely confused by the rain. But we got 2 more eggs yesterday, so they must have liked it!
Well, yesterday was our first 2-egg day from the chickens. We have 4 hens (and 1 roo) and got the first egg last Saturday. Total production was 6 eggs in the first week of laying. Not bad for my little bantam girls!
The brewery is so small, I'm surprised they can stock as many places as they do!! It's also kind of funny that most people who live in Shiner don't actually drink Shiner. If you go on the brewery tour you get free drinks in the hospitality room
Both are 6-7 months old. D'uccle is super sweet and my daughter's lap chicken. The Wyandotte roo is my son's favorite. Son has red hair the same color as the roo's feathers! They are best buddies.
They are about 6-7 months old. Mother-in-law got them as day-olds from an assorted bantam hatchery box and we got them from her in April. Roo crows and we got our first egg day before yesterday from one of the girls with another egg today.
Hi all! I think I have a D'uccle hen, but I'm not sure...
My roo is supposed to be a bantam Wyandotte, but I'm not seeing any lacing, so is he poorly marked, a mix, or something else completely?
We also have 3 Japanese bantams, but I know what those are
Thanks!
It certainly is a small world! My brother in law lives in Magnolia and I still have grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins in Shiner. We actually bought 60 acres near Shiner 2 years ago. We plan to move there someday...But for now jobs keep us somewhat near the city. We were able to find a...
Hi everyone! I am new to BYC but not new to Texas. I grew up 10 miles from Shiner (yes, where they make the beer!) and now live 40 miles SW of Houston. We have 5 bantams...2 white Japanese hens, 1 Black Japanese hen, 1 self-blue D'Uccle (I think) hen, and 1 red Wyandotte roo. Also have 2...
Thanks for the warm welcome! In honor of my joining BYC, the girls gave us a second egg. That is 2 eggs in 3 days! Woo Hoo! I will definitely check out the Texas thread.
Hi all! I live about 40 miles from Houston Tx on 5 wonderful acres of land. We recently got 5 chickens (4 hens and 1 roo). We have had them for a few months and got our first egg yesterday. They are assorted Bantams...2 White Japanese, 1 Black Japanese, 1 Self-Blue D'Uccle (I think) and the...
