I made one last night, had to use caulk on the inside because I am not a carpenter and wanted to make sure no feed got stuck where it could rot. I am concerned about the caulk in contact with the feed- should I use paint or a sealer??
I found the following link with some suggestions...
If your nesting boxes are that high you are going to get chickens roosting in them, and pooping in them. Makes for messy eggs.
We use vertical nipple watering system in 4" pvc with a birdbath heater that is located in the run, works fine here last winter just north of PHL. Just built a new...
Last night none of them made it in, I had to round them up after a few beers. One ended up across the yard in the old run, old habits die hard I guess!
This am there were still a few on the roost at 9am, I issued them demerits and shooed them off. They are using the boxes. Hope they figure...
More photos, the girls went in last night although I still have a few odds and ends to take care of including painting the shed to match our garage. Had a few escape the fenced in compost area this AM, not sure how they got out but think they flew over the 4 ft fence, need to clip their wings...

We have 11 hens at the moment, the current run and coop is built onto the side of our garage. They are being relocated to a shed which will give them full time access to compost adjacent to our garden and also to the garden over the winter.
I just had a 10x12 shed delivered today, going to...
I have a question about using Hollytone fertilizer.
I want to use it around a lilac bush as I have the past few years to bring a nice sized bush back.
This year our chickens are free-ranging in the yard. Would Hollytone be harmful to them? Underneath the bush is one of the spots they seem to...
I am planning on building a coop inside my shed, and have an access door with a good sized run. I want to build it under a workbench and have it hinge to open the whole top for easy access for cleaning and egg retrieval. Is 4' high enough, to have a roost height of say 2'?
Or would it be...
