Hello, I bred my own Majesty Marans they are day old today. Black copper marans roo over barred rock hens. Can someone confirm gender based on head spot? My first time hatching and sexing these 😀 3 chicks total. One had no spot at all the others have some spot. Does some white at all mean male?

Thanks! I don't think i could have done anything more for this one but the other one is even more of a disappointment because it got wedged against the wall and blocked its air from where it had piped. Wish I would have realized sooner 😞

Seeing as it was 48hr+ I decided to slowly open it. Unfortunately the chick had drown, not really much of an air pocket in there 😞 Another had gotten stuck because it was piped at wrong end. Thanks for the help!

This one in front is the one in question. The air sac is oblong along on long side of the shell. I traced it prior to lockdown.

I am.just going into lockdown. I candled all my eggs and had 3 not good. One I wasn't 100% sure about so I thought well let's candle once more. I see movement on there! I had it out of the incubator for a few hours because I thought it was dead anyway. Any chance it will be ok? Is it possible...

Any guess based on the pics as to which is what gender? Can you see any colour differences in those?

4 day old chicks. One looks a bit different, lighter colors showing through. Would the feathered feet be more likely to carry through on one vs the other? One has significant feathers on feet One is very mild feathers and one is none.

Did you try this? I was thinking the same thing. I got chicks with bands and I simply cut them off rather than pulling around the toes.

How did it make out? I reccomend if you ever have to open it, bring the incubator into the bathroom and run a hot shower to steam up the room. Even if you bring back the humidity it might be srink wrapped from opening and it can't undo that with increasing humidity

Yes I usually candle before setting. Totally forgot and when it had developed I didn't want to toss it. Lesson learned! Don't forget to candle for quality 😉
