Back from my bike ride, run & yoga... Now have 6 chicks. First time ever I've had them dry in the incubater - in the past my humidity was too high. Just a few eggs to go - but they have a while yet.
11 made it to lockdown. 5 are currently pipped. Finally have the humidity right! Eggs did well when I left town. Also set 7 eggs today under a broody... Not the brightest of all chickens though... Almost doubtful she'll make it through
In the past, humidity has not been an issue -- but I was forgetting to remove the ventilation plug. I have a batch going now, and humidity is very low and water is evaporating quickly - but I am letting the humidity run low because they are very dark eggs (mostly BCM). I'll be doing my day 14...
I just realized I will be out of town days 12-17. As long as we don't lose power (typically don't), our incubator holds temps well - but maintaining humidity is a bit more challenging. I would still like to do the hatch-a-long, but I've decided against swedish flower or frizzle/americauna eggs...
I'll give it a go. Just set some eggs for a Valentines day hatch, and if I have fixed the mistakes from the last hatch, I'll invest in some rare breed eggs
