Well we did it again! I found a someone that had some Welsumer pullets to sell. Eva and I picked up the last three they had. They had been in a pen with about 35 others (straight run) and the roos hormones were starting to kick in. The numbers were not in favor of the pullets they had in...
After being up late last night at the truck race at Kentucky Speedway and having to get up at 5:30 this morning to work all day we're waiting till Sunday to go to Milton. I hate that I had to work since we only live 6 miles from the park. I'd love to have met turbo and colby!
Anyone else from...

I usually go to swaps and come home with less, but this last swap found me bringing 13 chickens and 3 more ducks home, to go along with the 3 I'd brought home the week before. My excuse is that these are more birds of the breeds that I want, the only problem is I have too many breeds...
Looks like Eva and me are heading to the state fair Sunday morning. We'll just be there a couple of hours to take in the poultry and stock exhibits and some of the garden/field crop displays. Might hang around for the rooster crow. Anyone else going to be there then?

Does anyone here know of a source for Welsumer chicks in the Kyana area? Eva and I would like to have a few Welsummer pullet chicks. We also would like to add some more Orpngtons, buff, blue and Lavender if we could find them locally.

What side of Louisville are you on? Out in Henry County near Sligo there's a young couple that have chickens and sometimes have a sign out advertising state certified processed chickens.

Shelley, Jeremy I'm sure sorry to hear about your losses! We've only had our cluckers since March but they really have become pests(oops! I mean pets!). Since the dog kennel pen is not totally secure yet Eva and I only leave them out when one of us is home. I'm curious how close to the house...
Steph did you go to Tri-County? I hadn't heard anything in several days.

Steph I have not been to TriCounty in several years but back in the 1980's to 2000 I went a bit. I was always leery of the stock there. Seemed like a lot of "culls" too old or sick for people to fool with...

Somehow...after 6"of that wet stuff.....Trimble County had very little problem. I had to go to Madison Indiana this afternoon and the Ohio River is really going wild. And FULL of driftwood. Even several whole trees floating down the river.

So many variables it's hard to say. With everything greening up here in Kentucky it's possible she may have eaten some of a plant that intoxicated her. I'd check with your vet or local Extension Office and ask about that.
In the meantime, if you can handle her, gently touch/probe her head and...
Trimble County reporting in! We hadn't had chickens in years but took the plunge last week. 6 Australorps,5 Buff Orpingtons and 2 Silver-Laced Wyandottes. Both of us forgot how much fun(and work)raising chicks can be. Little critters are already eating from my hand!
