Updated my house with a small battery powered LED tube light mounted to the bearing beam facing upwards. Lights the house a little more than the heat lamp even in the dim setting and gives little to no heat.
and no risk of them hurting their eyes which was a main worry for me. The things we do...
Even when we had them in the house and turning the lights off. They go crazy....diva ducks. I want them to feel and be as safe and secure as possible. I have a few ideas and a little better idea of what I can do to make it more practical.
Yes they are usually well-behaved and dont get phased by the dogs or anything on the other side of the fence during the day. Probably over thinking it. I will definitely find a better solution to lighting for them.
I know exactly what you mean. We have the ones that just turn on based on the amount of light...so when it's dark lol. It's for night time only in their house. Already finding ways to install Windows and maybe just get light shining through from a lantern or something.
@Miss Lydia
Do you think...
I will read it. Please go check our thread for her. We tagged you in a few posts looking for recommendations on a liquid diet. We have been giving her blended peas and oatmeal strained 3 or 4 times to reduce the thickness and pretty much take it down to almost fully liquid. But could use other...
Nope check miss Lydia's post before yours. You just need to search each day when you let them out and pick up the eggs. Just a form of birth control.
Besides if your drake is anything like mine he will bring you lots of joy. He's a little ahole at times, but I wouldn't give him up for anything
Well aware, coop is big enough and has enough air flow it doesn't budge the temperature inside at all. Any heat is just what you get from being directly under it in the corner we made for it. With the addition of the fan we provided them they are good. Even sat in there myself for a few hours ;)
They probably don't need lamps because they regulate their temperature pretty well. Just from a humane perspective on my end I felt more okay going to sleep knowing if they were for some reason cold they had that option to lay under it.
We kept 1 heat lamp(100w I believe) in there house year round honestly. Even at 95 degrees now we have it on because ours hate the dark and we have no natural light. We do provide a fan now though for the hot nights.
Now, all I can say occasionally if it warmed up outside maybe high 40s to...
Also, the age they appear to be now probably 2 months or so? You most likely won't see them lay until Spring unless you have a warmer fall/winter. Ours didn't start laying until around 7-8 months but I also live in Michigan so we didn't see anything until it warmed up in January.
The silver one is probably blue sweedish. The other two are black sweedish. I have 3 black sweedish and I love them to death. Extremely hardy, great foragers. Don't have to clip them because they are a bigger breed. and yes they do lay every other day for me typically. But a lot of things can...
