I have been away from the site for a while and am checking back in. Our flock grew and shrunk and we are down to just a few of our favorite breeds in SW Ohio. Hope everyone is doing well.
Thank you :) Most of our pigs are kune kune so they keep our pasture clipped for us and are easy keepers. If you're ever out my way and would like either guineas or ducks, let me know and I'd be happy to supply you with some.
Nice to meet you! I'm over in the SW corner. In addition to chickens, raise blue slate turkeys, snowy white quail, welsh harlequin ducks, and guineas. Also have a small herd of pigs and dogs and cats.
Gosh, I wish you were closer. I'd totally lend you an incubator or hatch them for you in exchange for keeping a few. I'm about an hour from you though.
Fall Fire is who I ended up buying eggs from last year, but they didn't go well.
This year I have reserved blue slate poults from Chick A Boom Poultry in Goshen and will drive down to get them. I'd love to add sweetgrass at some point though as they're what I originally wanted.
If you don't find a home for her and her littles, I accept dropoffs and am always happy to have a hen with broody traits. Happy Wife Acres in Enon area does also, I believe, and they adore broodies. Not sure where you are located or who would be closer.
I second the advice to contact the zoning inspector, but I will also say that every house we looked at when shopping in that area either had chickens or the neighbors did. My guess is that if you have an acre (maybe more or maybe less), you most likely will be allowed chickens. Good luck!
