12/12 hatched! Set 16 but only 12 were fertile and 2 chicks died shortly after the hatch (one needed assistance, the other one had unabsorb organ(s) hanging out...). Left with 10 chicks :love
We also tested three different incubators (2 different brands, all Styrofoam ones) at different...
Last night we watched this one particular chick hatch, it was a quick 5 minute hatch from pipped to zipped to hatched (amazing) BUT something was not right! It had an unabsorbed organ (??) hanging out of its belly. This morning we found it pretty much dead so we ended its pain :hmm Super sad...
Can I ask you one more question? I’ve noticed that the center of my incubator is 97.3 degree while the corners and the sides of the turner is at 101.8. And this is when I set the temp of the incubator to 102.5. I try to “balance” the difference.
What would you recommend that I do? Will 101.8...
I see. Any way I can make sure the temp inside stay the same in different areas? I have a circulated air incubator but it is a styrofoam one.
In general, how many days do people typically let their hatch continue before calling it a hatch?
Yep 100%. We candles them on day 10.
Also, I cut open one egg from the incubator and it was a huge mistake. There was a live chick in there, still alive and breathing. So I left the rest along (day 23 today...)
We have 60/100 hatched on days 17&18. It’s day 22 today we still have about 30 eggs left in the incubator because a few of them have just pipped (a few died, and were shrink wrapped from taking too long zip? Hum. during lockdown has stayed consistently at 75% minimum).
All these eggs left in...
Here's our latest hatch! 17/100 hatched overnight last night (initially we put in 120, and 20 did not make it to lockdown).
If I could also ask a question here: we have three incubators - two forced air and one still air. We typically only use the two forced air for hatching. But now we are...
Hi everyone - how long would you let your eggs sit before putting them in the incubator? Lots of people say 7 days, some say 10 days, I'd just really like to know if you've done it yourself and what's the hatching rate?
Since we have a small flock (of 12 hens and 3 roos), we would like to save...
So far we have 15 hatched, out of 36, a couple of them still working on it.
I do have a question - one of them have curled toes on both feet. It's been 6 hours since it hatched out. Is it gonna affect its quality of life? What do people do in this situation? It's moving awkwardly and hasn't...
Good luck!
I was hatching day (17, started at day 0) yesterday for us, nothing. Zero. Today I saw some progress - a couple chicks have pipped but nothing more. Fingers crossed...
