Quick update.
I'm still having quite low hatch rates from my pullet eggs (as expected)...though it's been four hatch cycles counting the current one (one cycle none hatched at all). All of the cycles were 18-21 eggs, with the current hatch being 21 eggs. Three of those were from barred rock...
So...we have names lol.
Chunky Chip and Shadow. I don't have a name for the little black chick yet.
I'm PARTICULARLY proud of 'Chunky Chip' though...one of my finer moments I have to say!
My Ameraucana girl keeps giving me eggs lol! Her fertility rate is dismal though...meaning almost none even start. I've got 15 that are on day 10...and another 21 (about 3 Ameraucana for every 2 Ayam Cemani) going into the incubator on the 4th.
I'll be keeping you all posted for sure!
All the eggs i have running right now are pullet eggs. I have the dates of their first lay written down...but not here. It can't be over a month though. I'm just glad I have at least one of each breed's eggs looking to hatch in a few days!
With my luck they'll all be boys lol.
Day 18!!
Still four eggs running strong in the first incubator. The second is on day 8, and has what appears to be 7 viable of 15. Only one of which is from my Ameraucana girl. Surprisingly enough my Ayam Cemani pullet/hen is kicking out much stronger eggs than my somewhat older Ameraucana. I...
Where are you located? Mine aren't perfect but they're pretty solidly black compared to what I've seen out there.
Tomorrow the four remaining eggs all go on soft lockdown (stop moving, air cells up!), then I'll add a bit of humidity once we hit day 18.
Man I hope all four make it!!!
Well, as expected, today is my day 14 candle, and we're down to 2 of the Ayam Cemani eggs, 1 of the Ameraucana, and 1 Cornish X lol. So...we started with 14, and we're down to 4. I wasn't expecting any to hatch to be honest...so no harm done. I'm still getting well over a dozen eggs a day for...
I don't use my cap. Airflow is more important. If I were in a very dry area I might...but probably not. I'd actually increase the humidity in the room...and keep the cap off for airflow.
I also run mine full open at the top. 40-50% humidity is average with a full left trough.
Picture is the...
Smallish (except Brenda's!), yes. But not much smaller than the Ayam Cemani and Ameraucana hatching eggs I've gotten...so I'm hoping for the best.
I'm not expecting a high hatch rate...just hoping for the best!
Today was my 7 day candle (technically day 6...but I was too excited lol).
I set 14 eggs:
5 - Ayam Cemani over blue Ameraucana
7 - splash Ameraucana over Ayam Cemani
2 - black Ameraucana over Cornish X
Current status:
1 - Ayam Cemani over blue Ameraucana
6 - splash Ameraucana over Ayam Cemani...
If I keep getting eggs daily or close over the winter...I'll very likely keep hatching them 10 or so at a time until spring. Just keep alternating incubators every 21 days. Easter Eggers are ridiculously popular here, and I can sell finished, laying hens for a premium. If they're fibro it'll add...
Spots are definitely fun lol. I now have three of them that look like twins...one is just smaller/younger, lol. Lucky was the only one who was different, so I'm guessing maybe there's some kind of sex link thing going on with the AC/Cornish X.
Oh, guess what? My Ayam Cemani pullet is now a hen...
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Oh, and...Jenny has chicks lol.
:yesss:
I'll be moving them to the coop in the integration area here today. Hopefully she'll stay put. She REALLY likes her corner nest box lol.
