Looks like someone changed the name of my thread. I didn't know roosters could overeat hens. Lol
Anyway, I took everyone's advice. I was able to part with two roosters. It was the worst thing I've ever dealt with so far and I'm terribly sad, but I know it needed to be done. Now I'm down to...
I planned on parting with all my roosters in the beginning. But I’ve grown so attached to them and I don’t have the heart to give them to another person to make stew out of them. It seems unfair.
I totally agree more room is better. I do let them free range when the weather is nice and I can supervise them. I don’t want any predators to kill them.
They do seem content. Rarely do I see issues between them up until this recent problem.
I wish I would’ve known that last spring when I got chickens. I read a ton here and online and no where do I remember reading that roosters were an exception to the chicken math rule. Ugh.
I would hate to do that but i might have to since it’s not fair to the other hens and roosters. He’s one of my favorite roosters so getting rid of him isn’t an option. I wonder if rooster can be neutered?
what do you do with a rooster that overmates the hens, and when you put him with the roosters he overmates them too? I don’t know what to do with him. All he wants to do is make babies.
