I have chicks coming from Max Strong out of Texas, who seems to be a pretty serious breeder of Ameraucanas. I see his birds in the winning poultry shows.
The other source I have coming is from BYC's peachick. She seems to be well known for having really nice blue eggs. (Hatching eggs from her...
I hatched out some potential OE chicks- BCM over EE's. I was going to sell all of this batch, but I can't resist these 2 cuties.
I'm hoping for OE'S! The 2nd one looks to have a peacomb.. is it too soon to tell?
I'm going to be setting these eggs along with a few more on Friday!
I'll be keeping these for my own flock. Keeping my fingers crossed that fertility is good. My roosters over my OE's are from the same line as the BCM eggs pictured here, so I'm hoping for really dark OE laying chicks. My OE hen...
I plan on something along the lines of "Chicks will either lay olive or brown eggs. Chance of chicks laying olive eggs is ___ %."
I think as long as your honest about the chances of them laying brown eggs still, you can't go wrong. Not like they're expensive chicks. (Not mine anyway :) )
I did...
How do you guys advertise chicks? I have some hatchery stock EEs x with BCM roosters. Also have F3 olive Egger eggs in the incubator now x with the BCM roos.
I know they won't all lay olive eggs.. but whats the percentage of the ones that will?
My 1st olive egg! I hatched my girls this spring. Ended up with 2 crested hens. I'm not sure if they're both laying yet or not.
Now if I cross my girls back to a BCM roo, the chicks will lay even darker olive colored eggs?
So my F3 chicks could lay brown eggs. Hmph... and I thought I was getting ahead of the game. Lol
Thanks again for patiently explaining this to me and I'm going to read that article. :)
Quick question in regards to the F3 chicks. I was assuming that crossing those hens with a BCM roo would only darken the olive color. You're saying some of the chicks from that cross will lay brown eggs and some will lay green?
I'm going to jump in here.. I have been wanting to add olive-colored eggs to my basket.
I bought some hatching eggs and in that mix were 5 F3 OE's. I got 4 of those to hatch. The lady I purchased from said the hen was crested, and it looks like 3 of my chicks are as well. For F3's, (I guess...
