I was rudely awakened this morning by some lame ass crowing :gig
I took Chester out to his girls this morning. He starting chatting to them when he saw the pen ❤️ I think he is still sad about the attack, but he was happy to see them! Everything was quite civilised and he even tried to eat a...
Yeah I saw that. Chester seems to be quite okay chilling in his crate for now so if it's better for him to have quiet rest I am happy to keep him inside with us. He's a pretty mellow dude. I'm glad to hear yours recovered! Sounds like a much worse injury than Chester had.
Cheers for that. I also have horses so I'm used to doing all kinds of 'medical things' from shots to dealing with large injuries, so having a go at this is okay; better than letting Chester suffer! I have aquarium tubing here but I think it's probably too large. I'll stop at the vets tomorrow...
I feel like I need to add this skill to my CV now! I went and bought a bunch of syringes but couldn't find a crop feeding tube, so I had a go anyhow and just carefully syringed in water half a ml at a time at what I think was the right spot. He didn't seem to mind, especially because he got pats...
Guess who is feeling a bit better this morning?
He is drinking a little bit and actually managed a couple of mouthfuls of mashed egg for breakfast <3 I mixed them with a little egg and biscuit and extra water.
Still not drinking anywhere near enough according to you guys. He's probably had...
Thanks for the advice! The egg and biscuit mix has vitamins and minerals added; would this be enough vitamin E or should I give him the vit E oil on top?
Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help. Chester is a good boy <3 I think it is still a bit of shock as he lost four hens in the attack as well. I am only concerned that as the shock recovers that he gets enough water and food to recover. I sit with him and give him pats as well.
Today he was...
Hi, I'm in Australia. I did check everywhere, but I'll check again today. When it happened he was quite distressed so I didn't want to use a fine tooth comb.
Chester made it through last night and had some good rest. I was able to get him to drink a little with a cup this morning but he's too...
It's about 29 degrees C here and comfortable in the house, is it too cool for a big chook? Generally we have issues keeping Brahma cool not the other way around. Is there a way to tell if he is feeling cold?
Thanks! I am mostly worried because he's not drinking, just lying there. I am only getting a couple ml into him each time as I have to syringe then encourage him to swallow. He is very droopy. I don't want to make it worse for him if he is sore.
Hey guys, just joined and hope to get a little direction here.
Our pet rooster was caught up in a fox attack last night. I actually thought he had been taken but on checking the coop this morning found him! He was standing with his head/comb on the floor, and occasionally moving around. I could...
