Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Here's the latest. His wound is pretty clear. I used some blu Kote to assist in his flock reintroduction, and he hasn't been pecked since. I gotta say, I don't care for the stuff, but it seemed helpful in this particular instance. He's just so purple now ! His right eye definitely is still...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

My rooster is still getting better everyday. I gave him a little bath yesterday, because he was finally ready for it. He's now looking pretty fresh. I've been weening him outside in my garage. Started with a space heater, as it's getting down to the low teens some nights and he was still...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Okay I will keep it updated. Here's a picture of him happy in the coop. I brought him in after a few minutes, he started getting pretty cold. I'm happy he and the hens got to see each other. Also attached is a picture of his wound. His eye has been open mostly, but I just sprayed him with...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Hey y'all, thanks for the responses. I'm going to stop keeping this thread alive after this post, as I don't think my rooster qualifies as an emergency anymore and I want to make sure people get the help they need. That being said, I'll start weening him outside this week. It's just him and...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Hey y'all, wondering how soon I can stick this boy back outside. It's quite cold out there, but he's gained a bit of energy and is growing restless inside. He still hasn't grown back the skin entirely, but the wound is clearly on the mend. He seems to be scratching at it a bit more, and he...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Thanks for the responses. He is still gaining strength. A fair amount of greenish/blue discharge starts to accumulate in his wound after a few hours. I've been staying on top of cleaning it out, but sometimes it will go 12 hours without a cleaning. I will attach a picture of what it looks like...

Great thanks for that, I'll give it a try. Any advice on how long to administer the antibiotics?

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Hey y'all, Just an update. Noticed today that he definitely has blueish green discharge. I acquired amoxicillin and administered the first dose just now. He was 6.5lbs and I read elsewhere that you dose 57mg per pound. I managed to get him to eat most of a dose in yogurt, although I heard not...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Couldn't have it any other way. I've grown way too found of this rooster. I often carry him around under my arm and take him everywhere. Thanks for the thoughts.

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

I literally just had my nose an inch from the wound and took a deep breath and I didn't get anything too intense, just that same barnyard chicken smell only a little greasy. Thanks for the info. I'll still reach out to the vet tomorrow and if they don't assist me, I'll get some fish antibiotics...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Thank you coach. No new smells. He's kinda had a wet dog smell from the day of the incident. I assumed it was a combo of blood and feather oil.

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

I will try. I live in an exceptionally uptight part of the world (Connecticut) so I really am not hopeful that a vet will help me.

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

More updates. Still not sure how this is going to turn out. Sometimes he seems to be getting better, other times he's very weak. Today I thought I noticed a greenish hue to his wound. I immediately cleaned it and applied a thick layer of triple antibiotic cream. I'm going to attach some...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Great, thanks for the info y'all. I'm taking a rabbit to the vet Monday, so while I'm there I'll see if they can help me out. Thanks again Ps I'm in the US

Is there a way to get this without a prescription? Also, same question but for antibiotics in case I expect an infection

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

New update : I've been having good success with using the syringes on the side of the mouth. He seems to be in a good deal of pain still, as expected. I gave him aspirin dissolved in water (following recommended water solution). It's hard to quantify how much he took, but I'd guess between 2-4...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Thank you coach. My intuition agrees that the little bit of water he is willing to drink now is enough to keep him alive until he can do more. I may start him on aspirin today or tomorrow if he's willing to drink enough for it to work. I think it may help him get back to normal eating habits...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

Seems like he is getting better still. He's keeping his left eye open for the most part, unless he's in some pain. His right eye opened while I was applying neosporin to his ear wound, I assume it was very painful. Now that he is not wearing a bandage, he isn't slumping his head. He's standing...

Rooster attacked, severe neck injury (graphic image)

So he's getting a little more energy. He was having a hard time opening his beak because of the bandage, so I removed it. I now have his wound covered in a layer of triple antibiotic cream. I got his left eye open. It had feathers caked in blood holding it shut, so I used a cotton pad and warm...

Ouch, thanks for that information about the scabbing. Also I'd never heard of neosporin on the eyes. I have some vetericyn eye wash and some vetericyn eye gel from when my rabbits were injured. I was planning on using it
