Thanks, @WoDia .. hey, do you know what the air cell in button quail eggs should look like on day 13 ? Some of mine only have normal looking air cells while others have larger ones. Shouldn't the air cells be growing a bit?
so far it appears there are 14 very easy to see air sacs and the eggs are practically full ... seems the new incubator is doing a great job --- of course, they may not all hatch but still, very exciting!
Aww it would be soooo hard to lose your little babies. I find I grieve more over my pets than over people sometimes! .. I'm sorry it was so heartbreaking.. it likely will be the same for me when the time comes... whaaaaaaah! 😭
Aww that's adorable, @WoDia
Can I ask how kiki died? -- When these little fellows get older (2-3 yrs is apparently their life span), how do they die? - Do they just keel over? .. I'm already dreading it.
I'm a live-in caregiver for seniors and I literally travel all over Ontario going from...
The good news is that this a.m. I put him into the same pen with her after a week of only being separated by a screen, and no one is afraid of each other any longer (aside from her being afraid of me that is, lol) ... so at least they can coexist without anyone freaking out now  ...
awww look at that little yellow cutie chick in your new profile pic @WoDia - Adorable!
I played a YT vid for my baby-boy and almost immediately MEDUSA started calling in the background (hard to differentiate her from the video tho)
After seeing what an UNTAME button button quail is like...
Thanks! Today I went and bought a bendable small screening roll and did some measuring -- cut it down to size so I was able to place a divider between the 2 buttons and then hauled out that handy duct tape to keep it all in place. No one seems afraid, but no one seems interested either... if...
Aww thanks @WoDia .. good advice. I did take him out and put him into his smaller brooder area. I will have to find something to divide off the pen which is quite large so they can get used to one another. My baby boy isn't sexually mature yet - he doesn't even crow and this pretty 3 mth...
I picked up the new female (she's 3 mths old) ... she's a blue silver and very pretty. Got her home and she slipped thru my fingers .. had to chase her all over my room and finally got her cornered in the bathroom. She is NOT tame like my little 6 week old boy so she runs away from me instead...
I've noticed he's gotten a bit more flighty in the last week or so when I reach into the pen, but if I'm not around he calls for me. He'll be 6 wks next week. I think their natural instinct to run away or freak out gets stronger as they age so I'm not sure how long this one will hang with me...
Yeah, know where vent is.. lol.. just was confused re what you meant by the red feathers being near it :p .. It seems too early to tell regarding underside of tail as chick is only 3 weeks old and still has fuzz under there (no feathers yet). But it likely is male.
Feed is starter crumble...
There are some reddish colored tail feathers forming, but I'm not sure if that's what you mean by them being near the vent.. ? . Since the chick already had some reddish coloring in it's chick-fuzz it seems there will be red involved in feather colors too.
He or she has been intermittently...
Anyone have insights into button-quail type? -- Here he/she is 3 weeks old ..
= I'm guessing it could be a cinnamon red breast because of the red looking feathers starting to show along the side? As a chick he/she was yellow with orangey looking stripes.
Hoping for a female but I've...
