Button quail question fr Newbie

I so love my baby and how he sleeps in my hair as though I have feathers

Sounds like you have a very spoiled little boy! You’re so lucky, because my boys are a bit flighty to be held for too long. I have a white one (Cloud)…. the teeniest of all… he will fall asleep in my hands sometimes or in a blanket cave on my lap. Otherwise, handling my boys usually ends with them deciding to swan-dive down onto the floor and race around the room! It’s hilarious hearing them when I cover their cages for the night…. little velociraptor growls. I love it!

I've noticed he's gotten a bit more flighty in the last week or so when I reach into the pen, but if I'm not around he calls for me. He'll be 6 wks next week. I think their natural instinct to run away or freak out gets stronger as they age so I'm not sure how long this one will hang with me the way he does currently, I hope he doesn't stop.

I'm going to pick him up a girlfriend on Saturday to see if they like one another (what choice do they have?) ..

he's starting to make different sounds and beeps but no velociraptor growls yet.

How old are your 2 quail ?

My oldest are 3 years 1 month and my youngest are 1 year 4 months. He will want to be wherever his new girl is…. so if she gets attached to you, you may end up with both of them in your hair!

And…. don’t forget to post new photos of them!

I picked up the new female (she's 3 mths old) ... she's a blue silver and very pretty. Got her home and she slipped thru my fingers .. had to chase her all over my room and finally got her cornered in the bathroom. She is NOT tame like my little 6 week old boy so she runs away from me instead of to me! :he

I finally caught her and got her into the little play pen run (photo below) and she is CHASING my little boy all over the place and he is TERRIFIED.. I hope he clues in. She's even calling for him now and then but he's a bit daft....

I've decided to call her MUNRO because she looks like Marilyn Munroe.

and here's my scared boy who keeps calling for ME to save him from the scary female..

Munroe looks so much like my Kiki. Your little man wants mommy for protection…. ❤️… very precious. It’ll take some time for them to get to know each other, but they should bond eventually since it’s just the two of them. They’re such an adorable pair! He’s scared…. she’s scared. Have you thought about housing them next to each other for a little while? That way they can get used to seeing one another without either one of them fleeing in terror! Perhaps they will calm down for you better. So glad to see your photos! They’re great!! Continue with the updates and adorable photos!!

Aww thanks @WoDia .. good advice. I did take him out and put him into his smaller brooder area. I will have to find something to divide off the pen which is quite large so they can get used to one another. My baby boy isn't sexually mature yet - he doesn't even crow and this pretty 3 mth female is intimidating I'm sure. I really felt bad for him, he just wanted me to go get him but I made him stay in there for an hour plus with her before I got him and then he crawled all up into my hair .... still a baby I guess.

Is your Kiki also a blue-silver ? ..... The breeder told me she's a blue-silver but I've not been able to find anything about them so I wonder if she even knows

Kiki’s a silver. I wonder if the breeder was referring to a blue-face and silver mix (possibly). Regardless, Monroe’s a beautiful little girl. By the way…. I love your setup. Awesome!

Thanks! Today I went and bought a bendable small screening roll and did some measuring -- cut it down to size so I was able to place a divider between the 2 buttons and then hauled out that handy duct tape to keep it all in place. No one seems afraid, but no one seems interested either... if she torments my baby boy again I'm going to start calling her Medusa!

Not sure what the breeder meant, but this 3 month old silver lassy hasn't laid an egg. Would she have stopped laying once she came here?
