    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi All, I have a lot of catching up on my reading of posts on byc. I don't know where the time goes but I never seem to be able to find it. I hope all is well and your year is ending on a good note. I'm looking forward to sitting back in January and reading the last 6 months of posts. This is...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Sorry to hear about your loss. No one should ever put up with that. I've told all of my neighbors that if any predator comes into my yard and kills or injures one of my animals that predator will be dead before it leaves my yard. If you have a dog that you know likes to kill small animals then...

I'll definitely let you know the results. Unfortunately my squash plants are done now but I'll keep it in mind for next year. Thanks for the info on garlic. It's funny garlic is even used in reef aquariums for getting rid of certain parasites. I think I need to start growing that in my garden...

Thanks for the suggestion. At least I know baking soda won't hurt my girls.

Thanks, I've been looking at their products. It really annoys me that most organic products won't say that it's safe or unsafe for animals. This is why we need the older generations to teach us what they did to control their gardens when they didn't have specific products.

Thank you so much. I'll definitely try this. Garlic isn't toxic to chickens or ducks right? They all will go back into my garden after the growing season but occasionally one will find a way to get in sooner.

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi All, Does anyone know of an organic fungicide for vegetable plants and fruit trees that is also animal friendly? With all of the rain we've gotten this year I have every kind of fungi growing but my chickens and ducks free range all around my garden and fruit trees so I don't want to put...

Sorry for your loss Lynzi. Please excuse my ignorance but I'm very interested how things have changed in incubating eggs since the one and only time I did it 30+ years ago. I only had a cheap hovabator with no thermostat, humidity gauge or egg turner. Back then I learned everything from some...

Thank you very much. The best part about Permaculture is that we all want to share what we've learned and this really is nothing new. Farmers have always shared since the beginning of farming. It seems to be a product of industrial farming where farmers have stopped being farmers and more...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi NY Chicken Lovers, I wanted to share with you my project that I have been working on for the last 3 years which all of you have directly or indirectly helped in this project. I created The Permaculture Inn which is still in its infancy stage but eventually we plan to have a fully...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Unfortunately I have a bike trail behind my property so I get all kinds of people walking by and my ducks love to get their attention. But there are a lot of creepy people out there.

I second that. I lock up all of my animals with a padlock and my yard is booby trapped in every direction. I can't tell you how many times someone has hopped my fence and tried to open my shed. I now have an electric fence on top of my regular fence which is also laced with cut rose prickers and...

I looked around my yard after she left and found her nest right under my stairs of my deck. I never saw her and I am always on those stairs along with my dog. I probably looked right at her and didn't see a thing.

This was my little visiter in my yard. I have no idea where her nest was but I must have walked right over her. All she wanted to do was leave the yard before my chickens noticed her. I'm not sure if they would have bothered her chicks but I wasn't going to give them a chance. Now she comes back...

Thank you Rancher and everyone so much for your thoughts. You have no idea how much your words meant to me. Even though I've never met any of you I knew I needed to cry over my computer with all of you before I told anyone else. Knowing that I'm not alone when things like this happens makes all...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

I didn't think it would be this hard. But now that I'm disabled I spend my entire day outside gardening and being with my girls. I have not gone away since getting them when they were chicks a year and a half ago. They follow me around like my dog and all they want to do is hang out with me. I...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Hi NY Chicken Lovers, Only you guys will understand my pain right now. I am so ****** at myself for not listening to my hen last night when she sat on my lap and didn't want to go into the coop to roost. I thought she was just acting weird and carried her into the coop to roost. This morning...

    NY chicken lover!!!!

Thanks for sharing that link. Very funny. And we thought we didn't know anything about chickens. Wow, all you have to do is add water. You know these are the same people who end up at TSC planning only to buy seed starter trays and instead buy cute little chicks. Then they blame TSC when the...
