Ok cool, I'll do that. DH will have to take over tomorrow by placing them in the brooder for me while I'm gone.

After day three I snatch them out and leave any late bloomers for another day. You can call it on day three or give the laties another day. It's up to you. Most laties don't turn out well if left til day 5. If their alive I put them in a brown paper bag and in the freezer for a quit demise. Better for them and me. Newborns are very fragile and it takes little to send them to heaven.

Heaven is where you meed all the chickens you have ever loved.

Egg production is at an all-time high. I got 35 eggs yesterday! Wahoo! Egg customers are very happy.

I'm getting very frustrated over searching for a CNA course that doesn't run during the day. They are ALL given in the daytime. Kind of hard when you work during the day. And I need my daytime job. We can't do without the income and it pays our health insurance. I'm thinking of looking for a home health aide job that I could do evenings and weekends and go to school during the day (it's only an 8 week course for CNA, but then I'm thinking of following with nursing school). Then I worry that what if I hate it, and now I've quit my job at the school that I've had for 8 years?

Someone please tell me what to do.

Well I went back to school online but unfortunately it's for art/photography/business so I can do all of my classes online. I believe you could do online school as well though not all of your classes could be online. I understand I go the Art Institute of Pittsburg they do traditional and recently online courses. Um It's hard I'm more than positive you can figure it out. Can you do the CNA in the evenings? I've been a professional dog and cat groomer of 8 years with a cliental that is growing very fast. At some point I will have to make some hard decisions myself first during parts of the year I have to work a lot of overtime just to keep up with all the clients and second,when I start my buisness I won't be able to work the overtime and be a mom to my 10 year old. First see if you get your CNA during the evening if not is it possible to take a 8 week leave of absence? The nursing schooling I know you should have a better time working around your work schedule.

I went for a mid morning run and it was a hot one. I can't believe how fast the dogs and I ran while my son rode his bike. Of course there is a lot of construction going on I live in the city and all the workers got a nice show of how my sports bra only keeps the girls secure just enough LOL oh well I stay healthy and people get something to look at whateva.

The silkie is just fine I don't think she can't handle most other chickens, right now she is super happy by herself working a nice compost pile for me. I guess I will put the other silkie and Brabanter with her and they can work a small compost pile for my wild garden. The two remaining babies that were with them will have to join the big girls which they have flown over to on occassion so I think they ready. They are my last babies and should be laying in a month or two. Though I'm probably going to pick up 2-3 leghorns and 2-3 Wyandotte or Maran so I can provide my dad who is disabled with eggs and still have plenty for me. But no more silkies or ornamental birds for me, just too much work and my brabanter well seems a bit on the not so smart side but is just beautiful would be great for breeding stock, but we shall see she is still young and isn't laying yet maybe she's the ornamental breed for me.

well time to shower and cook some eggs yum yum!!!!

Some where we're more likely to find a place to sit. Time about 12 ? I expect to get there at 10. Taking the bus over. Maybe Chevy court? I'll most likely bring my cane since we walk a lot and stay all day.

Hi NY Chicken Lovers,

I wanted to share with you my project that I have been working on for the last 3 years which all of you have directly or indirectly helped in this project. I created The Permaculture Inn which is still in its infancy stage but eventually we plan to have a fully functioning permaculture farm with a bed and breakfast and a field-to-fork restaurant. Right now we in the process of becoming certified in permaculture as well as learning sustainable farming practices for raising plants and animals. All of you at backyardchickens.com and more specifically NY Chicken Lovers have been an enormous resource in finding alternative ways of raising chickens and ducks. I strongly believe that what we are doing will be the wave of the future in food. Even though at times it feels like we are stepping back in time the reality is that we all want to change the way we get our food. Just like all of you I love sharing what I've learned and this is carried over into our other endeavors. I've set up a facebook page for The Permaculture Inn. Thank you very much. The best part about Permaculture is that we all want to share what we've learned and this really is nothing new. Farmers have always shared since the beginning of farming. It seems to be a product of industrial farming where farmers have stopped being farmers and more industrial workers.

I'm thinking of discarding the two orp eggs that aren't doing anything. I'm 90% sure they stopped at some point. I don't know why and I do not want to open to find out. My silkie is doing well, the last of the Orp eggs pipped yesterday but nothing further. The BR egg is doing well, almost hatched. I don't hear any peeping from the orp egg.

So upsetting, I really wanted to see what some pure orpingtons would come out like. Owell.....

i dont want them relocated at all..I want them shot! Figured it would be easyer if they where trappes first. Or if somone wanted their fur.
They are getting the young ones through the fencing.I put chicken wire over the fencing around the bottom yesterday and they ripped my older hens head off through the top of the fence (hen was standing ontop of the coop). The fox has tried digging around the pen but dosnt get far, as I have fencing laid underneath.
I do let the chickens out, but the attacks have not been when they are free ranging.only early morning and between 8-9:30 PM

Have you looked into snares? Dh looked into them and purchased some on Ebay. You can set them up for fox on tree limbs (fallen over trees) with fox lure so the chances of getting a dog or another unwanted animal is lessened. They have a locking mechanism on it, so as the fox fights it, it gets tighter but won't loosen. It seemed to be a fairly quick way to kill the fox, especially if it were to fall off the tree limb or trunk. Google fox snares. We haven't used ours yet because the neighbor's dog got rid of our fox problem.

Yea, I just wish I knew what went wrong. I kept the humidity no higher than 55% after some had mentioned the risk of drowning. At least all my girls are laying so now come spring time, I can do a larger hatch and hope that people will be looking for chicks!
