Between getting back in town, a funeral today, a new foster cat and chicks....I haven't had a chance to photo. However, we had some time we had to kill in SL so we went back to IFA. I had been charged $5.49 for the blue egg chicks, but the sign was $3.69. I had a chance to talk with the guy...

That must have been heart-breaking to find! I think most animals, when scared or feels threatened, will eat their young to "protect" them. In the wild it gets rid of any evidence of babies preserving the parents (and/or rest of clan). Some new moms reject a newborn because they associate the...

Hi guys -- long time & sorry! Have a BIG question....and haven't checked the past 1000 unread msgs so sorry if it's a repeat. Tonight just picked up some speckled sussex and brown leghorns from 21st IFA, plus 3 chicks they are calling "Blue Eggers" (and said there is no other name, that is...

K, here's a pic of the white roo from Sundance. Dad is Hercules and mom is a BCWP. Not sure what's going on with his tail feather, the tall one just grew in. He's next to the blind banty roo (who is full grown) and the butt of a maran pullet that is older than him by about 2 months. My...

If your daughter's bonded to her, I'd just leave her by herself. If you end up with a roo you don't really want, you could put in in their for winter warmth (and maybe take her down a notch)? So sorry about your loss, I hope it was the hen (sadly) and not another predator. Did her neck...

Wow, my white guy looks nothing like his dad! Comb, wattles, etc! I'll really have to get a pic of him to post. He "sorta" has the body shape of his BCWP mom (no top hat at all) but otherwise looks like an enormous leghorn with fluffly, curly-ish legs (moreso than Herc). Thank you so much...

Crud! I'm working today but really stormy?! I can't believe that most of my days off have been crappy weather! I'll know my schedule for next wk (starts Sun) tomorrow late, so hopefully we can hook up next wk. Yeah on puppy breath!

I use DE and it has always worked for me. I got a silky hen from SL that was massively covered in crawling mites. Her initial bath (figured I had nothing to lose because there were thousands and my husband was torked) so I bathed her with dawn, dog tick spray, vinegar and dog shampoo. She was...

I guess I didn't realize Hercules was his dad, thought it was a frizzle Americana that Lisa has (or is that Hercules?). I'd love a link to a pic if anyone knows a link. Why don't you come up Friday if the weather's nice? I have the day off and I may be downsizing my herd and the pretty...

Sundance: You wouldn't BELIEVE how huge the white chick you gave me is! He towers over the two maran pullets, much less his blind friend!! He looks almost odd he's so big but has actually been nice with a little chasing of the girls but I think he still protects Mr. Fluffy (who crows also...

Yes, I have a baby of your blue frizzle. Can you tell me what breed he is? I got him from Sundance and the mom is BCWP. I'd like to give him up as my little blind cochin is a roo and I'm thinking the roo-ness will start kicking in soon and will terrify the blind guy. Would this roo be good...

Ace -- very COOL! Do you sell these? I have both chicken & horse feed bags I could donate (right now we use them for recycling), where are you located?

I use a big dog crate. No nest or bedding, just a perch, away from other chickens. I give extra treats and time with so they don't feel isolated. Should take a week or less. They have a few days readjusting back in the flock so this helps them going straight back to broody too. Good luck!

Sundance gave me what looked like a girl to be a friend to my blind roo. Below are old pics of when I got "her" (the white fluffly feet one)...however "she" crowed this am. I was starting to think I had a roo but with no crowing I kept pretending she was a she.... *sigh* He has grown up to...

I know this is OT but many own horses here.... I'm late in the game in getting horse hay. I need approx 5 tons. I have a beautiful 17" Crates Trail saddle or a Powder River round pen for trade. Again, pls PM if I don't see your post. Thanks!!!

When you get them, can you determine approx age and see if you get any eggs from them? I may be interested, and don't care if they aren't spring chickens as long as healthy and lay, I have enough older chickens that I don't hv the heart to rehome to anyone's pot. I'd love a pic. RJ: I saw...

I have a large racoon trap you are welcome to borrow. I'm in Summit Cnty. What evidence is the predator leaving behind? Foxes will just take the bird and run. Hawks usually leave a feather pile, skunks like the eggs first (but will get a bird). Mink or Ermine (sp?) will just suck the blood...

My small coop I vacuum out, hit with clorox in water, then when dried my husband used the shop vac backwards and shot the inside well. I also layered shavings and DE. Problem was solved. Coop has good ventilation and no one had any problems. That DE sticks to dry walls for some time! My...
