I suspect they are. Zeus is up on the roosts at night now. Even at what I am guessing is 4ish months he is as big as the hens, all 2 years+. But he seems to spend his days in the barn alley while the girls are mostly outside. He has figured out I am "bucket boy" and doesn't move as far away when...

I think it really helps when they integrate young. They aren't seen as competition and slowly find their way into the pecking order with little drama. I got an EE cockerel from the guy who watched our animals the beginning of the month while we went to VA to my older daughter's wedding. He had...

I see you are not horribly far from me, I live 20 miles south of the Canadian border on the west side of VT. We stopped overnight in Pembroke several times going to and from Wisconsin when DD2 was in college. There was a good Mexican restaurant there called Santa Fe. It closed so we started...

Nice looking birds! Not sure I would want to deal with the carpet and yarn wrapped unit after they poop all over it though.

36%?? What the heck are they feeding that to? Post "Starter" my girls have always done well on 16%. The starter I use is 20% and the "kids" are off it at somewhere around 4 weeks since by then they are jumping in the adult birds' layer feed. Can't keep that from happening and I've not had a...

That is what I use when the chicks are in the house with their Mama Heating Pad cave in a large cardboard box, very convenient. Out in the barn they have pine shavings same as the rest of the chickens. Glad your birds are doing well.

My original 12 went out to the barn a bit earlier than planned because they could get out of the bathtub but not back in off the bathroom floor. It is a wonder they didn't die jumping out at 3 weeks of age!

Interesting. I had tried to get 4 started Whites from someone breeding them on the other side of the start. He had some sort of predator attack, then got sick. Never got my birds but did get my $100 back. I just looked at Cackle, no Whites currently available, unsexed when they are.

I don't know squat but #50 and #27 caught my eye. If I had to look at only 1 bird it would be #50.

Oh, dang, just noticed I didn't specify the NECK lacing/shawl!!!!!! Certainly the body feathers would have that partridge pattern. As you can see, my bird didn't have the neck "shawl" though I do have a couple of EEs with it.

I'm curious about the "lacing" on your pullets. Is that a "standard" feature? I got 2 Partridge Chanteclers in 2012 from Ideal. Big hatchery so SOP is quite unlikely. They didn't have that lacing. Here is one of them at about 6 months
