We had to make Wichita news as having the most snow; Scott County 15 inches.
My ducks were walking over the top of their fence - all six mallards present.
All the chickens runs were pretty much full, but the coops were snow free & dry. Took me probably an hour and a half to scoop, feed, and...

Put them outside only after they are fully feathered. If you have kept them warm try to pick a warmer day with the sun shining before you move them out. In this weather I would add some fat to their diet if I were you before putting them out.
Thanks, I honestly figured it would be...
I know most of you are from the other side of the state, but I'd get some"fairly"local advice. None of my older chickens have heat & seem to not be the wiser; I am crazy and have some that are a few Weeks old & some to hatch in another week. Right now they are in a brooder in my downstairs...
I thought I was the only one out doing last minute projects before the snow hit. My Sumatra's were good with just the cold, but the snow had me worried so I got them into a run with more protection.

Mine just got tucked in for the snow that's supposed to hit tomorrow. Bales of straw against the north wall, some straw inside, but no heat . . . ummmm. . . . no electricity either.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
We have sand, but no hills

Kool!!!! Take the darn thing out to the sand hills or something a long ways from anywhere, I'm sure you can find a place like that out west!
I don't ask, but I believe it becomes coonskin. Trap was put within 50 yds of my birds; set on a moments notice at 6pm last night & already caught one - bettin there's more.

Anxiouus to see what the trail cam picked up, besides me and my dogs.
I actually keep my chickens in Shallow Water, a little town that is almost the same as living in the country. I grew up on that homestead and though I had seen a coyote now and then, hadn't seen a bobcat. I keep mentioning...
I live in desolate, dry, western part - Scott City. I first thought for the winter I could, ummm....fly under the radar, so to speak. I never thought I would be out at 10pm at my age setting up a trail cam.

Ok, I haven't ever seen Bobcats, but shouldn't rule them out. I'm sure they could get over the top. The guy I bought them from as day olds makes live traps, but he's out of town for a few days.
Even though the guy I bought mine from keeps chickens, pigeons, quail, etc in town, and another guy...
I did go hunting over the the weekend and found sex links feathers about 1/4 mile down the railroad tracks, but I can't understand how a coyote would get in. I have small square 6 ft livestock panels with chicken wire all the way around. I can see no evidence whatsoever of entry/exit except...
Well, I'm actually thinking "tractor like"; it would have a decent coop & for those blizzards we occasionally get, it would be garage. The thing is, I seen no bodies or parts, & no sign of digging/forced entry. The guy I bought them all from lives in town and keeps the roosters about a mile...
My luck can't seem to change these last few days. I've went from hatching my 1st Coturnix & Coturnix laying their 1st egg a little over a week ago to losing 3 of my sex links hens when their coop door blew open to today losing 2 young BCM roosters & 3 BCM pullets. I come home and buy a trail...
Was gonna go see the college daughter at KSU then take in the swap, but she walked through the bank doors 1/2 hour ago to surprise us.
I hatched out 2 out of a dozen eggs. one lived, & so I have one very friendly 4 month delaware rooster for whom I would like to find a harem.
I did find out...
