Hi, I'm looking for chickens in Southwest Kansas area.... Due to building a house and Baby #3, I let mine all go to better homes, during that phase, now I'm ready to dig in, as my lil crew can eat up to 5 dz a week of eggs. If anyone around me, has some good layers/chicks, pm me....
Thanks!!
It's been quite a while since I've been on this thread.... I have a question about rabbits rather than chickens. We are wanting to add rabbits to our lil farm, I finally found holland lops close by Wichita which is about 4 hrs from us. Not ideal but couldn't find any closer. (By Garden...
I was enjoying following the chat here, but life has gotten REALLY BUSY and has made for basically no computer time! (And this is ONLY the Beginning of Summer!!!) But I have a question for you seasoned chicken lovers... I have 3 roos and they are not all together happy together. (no hens)...
HEChicken, I didn't have the trouble with grass in any of my beds i laid... but i did use FIL's corn seed bags and those are really heavy duty! Also we don't have grass as much over here as you all have. We have thistles and weeds and cheat grass....
Prairie, ya it's a book, Lasagna...
Have you ever tried 'lasagna gardening'? It's a super no till way! I laid my whole veggie garden, 8-9 years ago. You will just need a few supplies, that mostly are free at least around here. Layer: Newspaper or cardboard, peat moss, barn litter, peat moss, compost, peat moss, grass...
Well, called to add to my chick order and found out now, that the min. is 25 and on bantams, its a straight run only. 60% roo - 40% hen is what TSC told me. He was very helpful and gave me the hatchery websites so I could look at the different varieties and do a mix and match if I wanted...
Hawkeye, Amber Waves is the place I ordered the first set of silkies from last spring and they just started offering that soon after I received mine last June. But the price of the chick plus the shipping made these birds a bit pricey, I thought, anyway. But they are nice looking birds and if...
I just ordered some chicks!!Thanks to you, Danz, for clueing me in! Now, I ordered 7 silkies...pullets... My question to you all is, is that enough? (I have 2 roos already) and these I'm crossing my fingers will mostly be hens! Should I go more to get more hens out of the deal or will it be...
Just wondering what makes a silkie want to run after you and peck you?? just starting to give them some 'free' time out of the run and into our TALL grass that needs to be mowed but hasn't happened yet and the silly things wanted to chase my 5 yr old and I and peck us! Don't know what we...
Cherwill, that is an Awesome idea... A spiral herb garden! I'll have to do that one this year! We are making a quick trip to Salina tonight and tom., what are the best nurseries there? Maybe I could swing a little shopping in between business!
I'm over in the far corner of southwest... Garden City. But I have family that lives over by Salina that we will be going to soon. So I'd be happy to meet I REALLY want some hens and I'm pretty sure I could find a new home for some of these roos around here. We also make a trip to OKC quite...
Well, This morning I awoke to hearing the roosters crow quite loudly and I thought, Wow, I've never heard them that 'clear' in bed before, must be the way the wind is blowing!.... I open the shades and WHOA, 3 of them were strutting around in the yard!! I had fed them some lettuce last...
Oh, one more thing, IF I have only 1 Hen and 3 roosters, is there some Hens available around me? I'm in southwest KS. I really would like to gather 'fresh' eggs for my little family.
