Now that 2 of 6 eggs hatched, momma is overly protective of one and aggressive towards the other. Should I separate mom into her normal coop and just let the chicks live in the brooder? Only 2, all the others are quitters.

I've been out maneuvered by my chickens. My bantam Cochin is broody so I snuck 10 eggs under her. This is day 3. There are now close to 16 eggs she's under and not all the numbers are there that are from 1-10. Lol that's what she gets for brooding in the favorite box.

Well Well, she's a lot fuzzier than the two others I got to keep her company. They're a few days older than her at least. The seramas are isolated to the other flock. The color is throwing me off. My Cochin is dark like her. Lol

this little girl is rather fuzzy for being a first day hatch. I don't know who th daddy is or the momma for that fact. I could be a serama, D'Uccle, silkie, bantam Cochin mix. Maybe next time I will mark the eggs. When can you tell which breed they are?

i built my nesting box in a four square configuration. 12" out so it accommodates the largest bird and 10" high for each box. I also staggered the boxes so I could staple the sides together easily. If you are building a nesting box with an open face, make a 1-2" lip around the front so they...

Just add water to it, like oatmeal. They stay hydrated and the sour smelly poop goes away. More nutritious as its easier for them to digest. As they get older you can also do fermented feed which is letting the wet feed sit around for awhile. It makes their waddles more red and their yolks more...

I feed the new chicks wet feed. They can't fling that around and waste it like the dry feed.

They're probably adjusting to the new pad. My seramas did that. It took almost a month.

As of now, she is big enough to cover them. I don't know about later when they get bigger. I snuck a bantam and silkie egg under her as well.

I have a broody serama hatching 6 eggs. Is it okay to leave them with her without a heat lamp? Or should I separate her and use a lamp?

I've got I've got some seramas under a broody right now as well as an Amercauna and Silkie which I'm sure are from a D'Uccle roo. I'm in Sac. PM me if you want a road trip. They should be hatching in a week.

i didn't know there were seasons for mites. I also didn't know how hard it is to sneak up on chickens to take a butt shot. I feel like a dirty old man.

Both of their behinds are almost featherless. I'm thinking mites might be the issue. I have Sevin and will try this next step. Their bums are red and swollen.

They have been treated or worms recently because my Anericuana was mouth breathing. I usually add ACV in their water. They get fermented feed and fodder also.
