My understanding is that you will still be able to buy the 100 w. rough service bulbs. I only use the rough service anyway because I've had the cheaper ones burn out during the night.

I know, they are excellent size and I LOVE that. I got an order of Ameraucana eggs to hatch and they were the size of my 1st yr. layers.....lol. I figure if I get any pullets out of the hatch and cross them on my Ameraucana rooster that they will improve the size and give them a...
Wow Those are the biggest Ameraucana eggs I have ever seen. It is hard to get pics to show the true color of blue but if your color is true, I would say it is very good too. I can't answer to shape except to say mine are more " egg shaped".
Someone with more experience than me will answer...

Yes, lavender is recessive. If you breed lavender to lavender, you will get 100% lavender chicks. If you breed a visually black bird that carries lavender (a split) to a lavender bird, you will get 50% lavender and 50% splits. If you breed a split to a split, you will get some...
pips&peeps :
It's kind of beat up and has some scratches and poo on it. I wonder what she will lay next, hopefully it will be almost as good.
Keep us posted.
So would you consider them to be BQ or PQ?
If I were to sell or trade the eggs would the person receiving them be excited, satisified or dissapointed with the resulting chicks?

Hard to say from just those two photos. I really don't like the comb on the first male shown, but that's me. A comb too tall often points to heterozygous pea comb, that, or it just points to the opposite of what one wants in a pea comb shape and size.
Otherwise, they look fine from the...
Ok, finally got some pics of my birds. Some of you give me some constructive criticism. Tell me what you think.. What do I need to work on.
Please ignore the EE and light brahama in this pic.

Anybody on this thread from Alabama? I really would like to bring in some fresh blood. I would be interested in eggs, chicks or pullets. BBS. No roos please. I have more than my share already.
I know I could order eggs but I really want to avoid that if I can. Such a poor hatch rate on...
Not sure. No experimentation that I am aware of. And like I said all from very reputable breeders (I think) on this site. So they should be pure. Very hard to narrow down which hen is laying which egg.
Hi, New to this thread. I have BBS Ameraucanas. The eggs were purchased from reputiable breeders from this site. They were all hatched from pretty sky blue eggs. My question; is it possible for a pure ameraucana to lay a pink egg? Is this an aboration or do I have a poser?
